The Faculty of Computer and Information Sciences Hosts an Egyptian–British Workshop on the Development of Dual Higher Education

Within the framework of strengthening international collaboration in higher education and scientific research in the field of artificial intelligence, and under the patronage of Prof. Mohamed Diaa Zain El-Abedeen, President of Ain Shams University, the Faculty of Computer and Information Sciences at Ain Shams University hosted the joint workshop activities of the international project entitled “Unlocking the Potential of UK Transnational Higher Education in Egypt through Structuring and Digital Transformation.” The project aims to enhance the quality of higher education programs at the Faculties of Computers and Information and Engineering at Ain Shams University, in cooperation with the University of East London. The project is funded by the British Council within the framework of Transnational Education (TNE) programs.

The workshop was held under the title “A Panel Discussion on Egyptian–British Cooperation in Developing International Education and Artificial Intelligence Research,” and took place at the faculty’s seminar hall, with the participation of project members, faculty leadership, academic staff, teaching assistants, students, and experts from both the Egyptian and British sides.

The event opened with welcoming remarks delivered by Prof. Rasha Ismail, Dean of the Faculty of Computer and Information Sciences at Ain Shams University; Ms. Diane Gloutier, Director of Academic Partnerships and International Collaboration at the University of East London; Mr. Mark Crosey, Assistant Director of the International Campus at the University of East London; and Mr. David McCrory, Assistant Director for International Campus Development at the University of East London.

This was followed by an introductory presentation on the international project delivered by Prof. Nagwa Badr, the project’s Principal Investigator, with the participation of Prof. Sherine Rady, a member of the project team. The presentation addressed the project’s objectives and outcomes, including a detailed explanation of the digital transformation output, which aims to enable seamless data sharing within the work environment and to create a more supportive ecosystem for enhancing quality and digitalization across the education system.

Additionally, Prof. Mahmoud Khalil, a member of the project, delivered a presentation on Centers of Excellence and their role in supporting innovation and scientific research. This was followed by a presentation on the AI Empower Egypt initiative by Dell Technologies, sponsored by the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology, during which Eng. Hisham Barakat, Principal Technical Advisor to the program, and Ms. Sara Moataz, Strategic Program Manager at the company, highlighted the initiative and its activities.

The workshop concluded with an open discussion session that addressed prospects for developing international education and strengthening Egyptian–British cooperation in the fields of artificial intelligence, including its applied and research dimensions, in support of Egypt’s vision for digital transformation and knowledge-based innovation. The session was followed by a dedicated networking period for communication and the exchange of expertise among participants.
