Ain Shams University’s Faculty of Education Holds Awareness Seminar on “The Phenomenon of Bullying, Its Dangers, and the Need to Confront It”

The Education and Student Affairs Sector at the Faculty of Education, Ain Shams University, in cooperation with the Higher Social Committee of the Faculty Students’ Union, organized an awareness seminar entitled “The Phenomenon of Bullying, Its Dangers, and the Need to Stop and Confront It.”

         
   
         

The seminar was held under the patronage of Prof. Mohamed Diaa Zain El-Abedeen, President of Ain Shams University, and Prof. Safaa Shehata, Dean of the Faculty, and was attended by a distinguished group of faculty members and students.

Among the attendees were Dr. Hany Nady Youssef, Vice Dean for Education and Student Affairs, and Dr. Hala Khalaf, Vice Dean for Community Service and Environmental Development, along with several faculty staff and students.

   
   

In his speech, Dr. Hany Nady Youssef highlighted the seriousness of bullying as a social phenomenon that reflects a disruption in the system of values, stressing the university’s essential role in promoting a culture of respect and acceptance among students.

Dr. Hala Khalaf emphasized that confronting bullying begins with spreading awareness and positive culture within families, schools, and universities.

Meanwhile, Dr. Sally Mahmoud, Assistant Professor of Psychology at the Faculty of Education, Ain Shams University, stated that combating bullying is a shared responsibility that starts within the family and extends to schools, universities, and society as a whole, to build a generation that respects itself and others.

For his part, Dr. Talaat Basha Eskaros, Assistant Professor of Psychology at the Faculty of Arts, Ain Shams University, explained that bullies often suffer from psychological disorders or a sense of internal deficiency. He stressed the need to deal with them through understanding and psychological support rather than punishment alone. He also reviewed the different forms of bullying and their impact on society.

The seminar explored the psychological, social, and educational dimensions of bullying and discussed its various types, including verbal bullying (mockery or insults), physical bullying (assault or physical harm), social bullying (exclusion, isolation, or spreading rumors), and cyberbullying (through social media).

The event concluded with honoring all speakers and media participants in appreciation of their contributions to the success of the seminar and to raising awareness about bullying and ways to confront it. The seminar also stressed the importance of implementing psychological counseling and awareness programs within educational institutions and fostering the values of tolerance and cooperation among students to build a safe and healthy learning environment.
