Training workshops for Ain Shams University students on the role of Egyptian university students in achieving quality assurance and academic excellence within the “Bedaya” initiative

Under the auspices of Prof. Mohamed Diaa Zain El-Abedeen, President of Ain Shams University, and in light of the university’s participation in “Bedaya for Quality Assurance in Education” initiative, which the National Authority for Quality Assurance and Accreditation of Education launched from Ain Shams University, the University’s Quality Assurance Center organized training workshops on “The Role of Egyptian University Students in Achieving Quality Assurance and Academic Excellence.”

The workshops were held under the supervision of Prof. Myriam Farid Ayad, Director of the Quality Assurance Center, and were conducted for the second consecutive time to train university students from various faculties. The training took place over two days, Sunday and Tuesday, August 17 and 19, with the participation of 582 students from the Faculties of Pharmacy, Medicine, Engineering, Dentistry, Education, Arts, Agriculture, Mass Communication, Science, Nursing, Veterinary Medicine, Girls, Law, Commerce, Specific Education, and Computer and Information Sciences.

Prof. Myriam Farid Ayad opened the training, emphasizing that these workshops come within the framework of the Center’s efforts to promote a culture of quality and academic excellence, enhance students’ awareness of the importance of quality systems, and highlight their role in developing the educational process to raise the level of education among university students. This is also in line with the universities and the Center’s belief in the importance of such awareness workshops, particularly after the university obtained institutional accreditation from the Authority.

The training was delivered by Prof. Myriam Farid Ayad, Director of the Center, and Prof. Sayed Abdel Fattah, Professor at the Faculty of Agriculture and Director of the Training and Technical Support Units at the Quality Assurance and Accreditation Center.

The training program included an introduction to the National Authority for Quality Assurance and Accreditation of Education, an overview of the role of the University’s Quality Assurance and Accreditation Center, a review of the stakeholders in quality assurance in universities, the Authority’s objectives, and Egypt’s Vision 2030 with its focus on the quality of education.

The workshops also introduced key concepts related to quality assurance in higher education institutions (quality assurance, accreditation, accreditation standards, programmatic accreditation, and institutional accreditation) and explained the significance of achieving quality assurance in universities.

In addition, the program outlined the standards of programmatic accreditation (including the standards of teaching, learning and assessment; students and graduates; and quality assurance and performance evaluation), discussed the challenges students face in meeting quality standards within their faculties, and clarified students’ role in improving the quality of education at their faculties.

Finally, the training highlighted the competition for best practices in student participation in quality assurance processes within their faculties.
