Dr. Dina Ramadan opened the seminar with a comprehensive introduction to the concept of sustainable development, highlighting that it is based on achieving a delicate balance between the demands of economic growth and the necessity of preserving the environment and resources for future generations.

She emphasized the role of voluntary work as an effective tool for environmental protection through practical activities such as planting greenery and cleaning public areas.

The discussion also stressed the importance of rationalizing consumption and reducing the use of plastic materials in favor of paper-based packaging, given its environmental safety and natural biodegradability.

Dr. Ramadan encouraged students to actively participate in environmental initiatives both inside and outside the college, noting that collective action is key to achieving rapid and sustainable progress.

This part of the seminar saw positive interaction from the students, who enriched the conversation with contributions and ideas on ways individuals can help protect the environment.

In the second session, titled “A Bright Future,” Ms. Hadir Helal from the Biochemistry Department highlighted the vital importance of non-academic student activities and engagements in developing the personality of the university student and instilling a spirit of initiative and responsibility toward the community and the environment.

Ms. Helal presented a selection of outstanding student projects submitted by students of the Faculty of Girls, including:

 “Ghozoor” (Roots) Project

 Waste Recycling Project

 “Traffic and Turbine Generator” Project

Compost Project for recycling organic waste

A project by fourth-year Physics students showcasing an electronics unit and various crochet and handicraft works

The seminar also discussed several proposed ideas and initiatives aimed at enhancing environmental awareness within the college. Among the most notable were: the upcoming launch of the “Green College Initiative,” organizing workshops and seminars to introduce students to environmental projects and how to implement them practically, and establishing a “Green Week” to celebrate environmental projects and promote sustainable awareness among students.

The seminar concluded by emphasizing that environmental awareness and positive behavior form the foundation for building a bright and sustainable future for all.
