It also highlighted innovative models of collaboration between academia and industry, mechanisms for anticipating future skills, and frameworks and policies that ensure graduates are prepared for the job market and empower them to contribute to achieving national priorities and enhancing global competitiveness.
Prof. Mohamed Diaa Zain El-Abedeen opened the session by emphasizing that universities are no longer merely institutions for transmitting knowledge, but have become engines of national development, incubators of innovation, and key drivers of economic transformation. Therefore, one of the most prominent challenges they face today is the gap between graduate competencies and labor market needs. This gap directly impacts employment opportunities, productivity, and ultimately, the achievement of sustainable national growth.
The discussion revolved around bridging the gap between the labor market and its requirements and academic education at universities, as well as the importance of internationalization in education. The importance of developing students' abilities, talents, and skills, such as working under pressure, creativity, working within multicultural teams (from different countries), self-development, and lifelong learning, was also highlighted.
