The Students of Ain Shams University Participate in the Awareness Forum to Combat Extremism and Terrorism

Students of Ain Shams University participated in the awareness forum titled “A Youth Vision to Confront Extremism and Terrorism” for Egyptian university students. The forum was organized by the Ministry of Youth and Sports in cooperation with the Al-Azhar Observatory and the theology faculties affiliated with the Coptic Orthodox Church and was held at the Youth City in Port Said.

The students’ participation took place under the patronage of Prof. Mohamed Diaa Zain El-Abedeen, President of Ain Shams University, and Prof. Rami Maher Ghali, Vice President for Education and Student Affairs, with administrative supervision and coordination by Mr. Ibrahim Said Hamza, Assistant Secretary-General of the University for the Education and Student Affairs Sector. This comes within the framework of Ain Shams University’s keenness to involve its students in national and awareness-raising events.

The forum program included a rich series of workshops and lectures that witnessed positive interaction from students and addressed several key themes, including Egypt’s cultural uniqueness, extremism, its causes, motivations, and methods of prevention, the common ground among members of Egyptian society, and Egyptian national identity.

The program also discussed the role of social media in both spreading extremism and promoting moderation, the concept of moderation as a counterforce to extremism, non-religious extremism and its negative impact on youth, in addition to organizing a roundtable discussion on cultural diversity across Egypt’s governorates.

The participation of Ain Shams University students comes as part of the activities and events organized by the University’s Education and Student Affairs Sector, represented by the Administration of Student Families and Unions at the General Administration of Youth Welfare. This reflects the University’s commitment to supporting student engagement in various national events, providing valuable opportunities to learn about the efforts of state institutions and their role in serving society, broadening students’ perspectives, and reinforcing the values of belonging, loyalty, national responsibility, intellectual and moral awareness, rejection of extremism and violence, and affirming the University’s role in preparing a conscious, cultured generation capable of positive participation in building the nation.
