President of Ain Shams University Receives High-Level Delegation from Peking University of Posts and Telecommunications to Discuss Academic and Technological Cooperation
Prof. Mohamed Diaa Zain El-Abedeen, President of Ain Shams University, received a high-level delegation from Peking University of Posts and Telecommunications (BUPT), China’s top university in communications and computer sciences, headed by Prof. Xiu Mei, President of the University, to discuss prospects for cooperation and to strengthen academic and research relations between the two institutions.

The visit comes considering the upcoming 70th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Egypt and China, reflecting the shared commitment of both nations to deepening collaboration in education, technology, and innovation.
The meeting was attended by Prof. Amany Osama Kamel, Vice President for Postgraduate Studies and Research; Prof. Sherweit El-Ahmady, Executive Director of the International Relations and Academic Collaboration Sector; Prof. Hossam Fahim, Advisor to the University President for IT and Digital Transformation; Prof. Nasser Abdel Aal, Director of the Confucius Institute; Prof. Sahar Dwidar, Deputy Director of the Center for Education and Research Strategies; and Prof. Mahmoud Faiz, Director of the Networks and IT Center.

During his remarks, Prof. Mohamed Diaa Zain El-Abedeen welcomed the Chinese delegation, emphasizing the university’s commitment to enhancing academic and research cooperation with leading international universities, particularly in the fields of digital transformation, communications, and information technology.
He highlighted Ain Shams University’s strategic vision aimed at advancing education and learning systems through innovative and critical thinking-based approaches, supporting applied research, and developing competencies capable of keeping pace with global transformations and achieving sustainable development.
Prof. Diaa also expressed his aspiration to open new horizons of cooperation between the two universities, including faculty development, student and expertise exchange programs, as well as the launch of joint academic and research initiatives.
During the discussions, both sides explored opportunities to enhance academic and technical collaboration, with the Chinese delegation presenting several proposals to develop joint work in digital education, scientific research, and engineering capacity building.
The Chinese delegation expressed its interest in cooperating with Ain Shams University to establish a Digital Education Center aimed at supporting the transition toward smart learning, sharing expertise in digital curriculum development, and building educational capacities, contributing to a positive and sustainable impact in this field.
They also proposed the establishment of a joint research laboratory focused on communications, information technology, and smart industry development, in cooperation with China Telecom Egypt, to serve as a model for effective university–industry integration.
The delegation noted that the project enjoys strong support from the Chinese government, including financial and technical backing to enhance cooperation with Egyptian universities.
Furthermore, the delegation expressed its desire to launch a joint platform for developing outstanding engineering talent, in collaboration with Chinese companies operating in Cairo. The platform would be hosted at Ain Shams University and serve as a hub for training and qualifying engineering cadres with advanced technical expertise.
They added that BUPT would invite Chinese companies to provide financial support and offer study and training opportunities in China for outstanding Ain Shams University students.
The delegation affirmed that these proposals represent key pillars for practical cooperation between the two universities, expressing appreciation for Ain Shams University’s continuous support and commitment to strengthening academic and research relations between Egypt and China.
During the meeting, Dr. Dalia Youssef, Director of the Central E-Learning Unit at Ain Shams University, gave an overview of the unit’s mission, which focuses on supporting and developing online education through managing and upgrading e-learning systems, providing technical assistance to faculty members and students, designing and developing digital courses, offering training and guidance, and formulating university-wide e-learning strategies in line with global digital education trends. From the Chinese side, attendees included Prof. Li Xi, Executive Dean of Graduate Studies; Prof. Wang Shangguang, Dean of the Faculty of Computer Science; Mr. Wu Hao, General Director of the University; and Ms. Wang Yao, Director of the Office of International Relations. From the Chinese Embassy in Cairo, Minister Counselor Mr. Lu Chunsheng, Counselor Ms. Li Jia (Advisor for Cooperation with the Arab League), and Mr. Feng Yao, Second Secretary at the Embassy’s Science Office, were also present.
