Ain Shams University successfully concluded the “Tamkeen… Together Towards an Inclusive Future” initiative, held under the patronage of Prof. Mohamed Ayman Ashour, Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, and as part of Ain Shams University’s renewed vision to support students with disabilities, and organized by the Education and Students Sector, represented by the Students with Disabilities Center, the initiative ran for five consecutive days, aiming to promote a culture of academic and social inclusion for students of determination.
The final day of the initiative, serving as a culmination of awareness efforts, featured a seminar for parents held in the Republic Building Hall on the University Campus. The seminar focused on “Psychological Challenges for Parents of Students with Disabilities” and was presented by distinguished specialists: Dr. Mayar Nowara from the Department of Psychiatry and Dr. Marwa Mandi from the Department of Psychology at the Faculty of Arts.
The seminar aimed to shed light on the psychological and social burdens faced by parents, providing practical guidance and psychological support to help them effectively address the challenges encountered by their children. This was conducted through the collaborative efforts of the Youth Welfare Administration and the Center for Students with Disabilities.
The closing of the week also included special sports activities, embodying the initiative’s theme of inclusion. Matches and physical activities brought together students with and without disabilities, fostering positive interaction and mutual respect. The activities emphasized that sports serve as a universal language that breaks all barriers, with participation from the General Administration for Youth Welfare. Activities included light fitness exercises, friendly table tennis matches, and mini tournaments in football, basketball, and goalball for visually impaired students, highlighting the sport and promoting awareness and integration.
The “Tamkeen” initiative is part of Ain Shams University’s strategic vision to strengthen the rights of students with disabilities and provide an inclusive educational environment that ensures equal opportunities in learning and active participation in all university activities.
All activities were offered to students, faculty staff, teaching assistants, and administrative staff under the administrative and executive supervision of Mr. Ibrahim Saeed, Assistant Secretary of the University for the Education and Students Sector.
