Prof. Mohamed Diaa Zain El-Abedeen, President of Ain Shams University, attended the Faculty of Engineering’s graduation ceremony for the Class of 2026, comprising 1,613 male and female engineers. The ceremony was attended by Prof. Rami Maher, Vice President of Ain Shams University for Education and Student Affairs; Prof. Mohamed Salheen, Vice President of Ain Shams National University for Academic Affairs; Prof. Mostafa Refaat, Secretary-General of the Supreme Council of Universities; Prof. Amr Shaat, Dean of the Faculty; the Faculty’s vice deans, faculty staff, teaching assistants, and the graduates’ families.

In his address, Prof. Mohamed Diaa Zain El-Abedeen, President of Ain Shams University, congratulated the Faculty of Engineering graduates, expressing his pleasure at sharing with them one of the most memorable moments of their journey and extending his sincere congratulations following years of hard work, perseverance, and ambition.

He emphasized that the graduates should take pride in graduating from the Faculty of Engineering at Ain Shams University, a prestigious academic institution that has educated generations of engineers who have contributed—and continue to contribute—to development, nation-building, and serving their country.

He explained that throughout their years of study, the Faculty was committed to equipping students with knowledge and expertise, developing their practical skills and their abilities in critical thinking, creativity, and problem-solving, and preparing them for the demands of the labor market and the challenges of the future amid rapidly accelerating scientific and technological advancements.

The University President also expressed his gratitude and appreciation to the Faculty’s professors for their dedicated efforts in education, guidance, and support, describing them as “true partners” in the graduates’ journey.

He stressed that graduation is not the end of the road, but rather the beginning of a new stage of learning, work, and responsibility. He urged the graduates to make lifelong learning and self-development an integral part of their careers, keep pace with the latest developments in their fields, and remain prepared to learn, adapt, and innovate.

He also congratulated the graduates’ families for their significant role in supporting and encouraging their children, emphasizing that the graduates’ success is the fruit of their families’ love, support, and patience.

Concluding his remarks, he called on the graduates to take pride in their achievements, have confidence in their abilities, and serve as exemplary ambassadors of Ain Shams University, carrying its name in a manner befitting its history and standing and embodying the knowledge, values, sense of belonging, and responsibility they acquired during their studies. He wished them a future filled with success, excellence, and meaningful contributions in service of their country.

In his address, Prof. Amr Shaat, Dean of the Faculty, emphasized that graduation day “is not the end of the journey, but its true beginning,” and that the knowledge acquired by the graduates represents both a responsibility and a mission that should be harnessed to serve people and society.

He noted that the Class of 2026 is graduating amid intense local and regional competition, with approximately 29,000 engineers graduating this year from 152 Egyptian engineering educational institutions. He stressed that the value of an Ain Shams Engineering graduate is measured by the quality of their education and training and the impact they make. He added that the Faculty, whose legacy spans two centuries, has an influence extending throughout Egypt, the Arab region, and Africa.

As an example of this impact, he highlighted the Julius Nyerere Hydropower Project in Tanzania, which was officially inaugurated in August 2026 and implemented by an Egyptian consortium comprising Arab Contractors and Elsewedy Electric, at a cost of approximately USD 3 billion and with a generating capacity of 2,115 megawatts.

He expressed his pride that two Faculty graduates hold leading positions at the two companies involved in the project: Eng. Wael Hamdy, CEO of Elsewedy Electric Group and a 1995 graduate of the Electrical Power and Machines Engineering Department, and Eng. Heba Abu El-Ela, Vice Chairman of Arab Contractors and a 2007 graduate of the Structural Engineering Department.

Prof. Amr Shaat also reviewed the outcomes of the partnership with the Faculty of Architecture at Mediterranea University in Italy, which began in 2018 and resulted in a dual-degree program that has benefited approximately 100 students. To date, 71 students have graduated from the program, around half of whom are employed by companies and consultancy firms in Italy, while 29 students are continuing their studies and are expected to graduate within the next two years. This reflects the Faculty’s success in advancing the internationalization of engineering education.

Concluding his remarks, the Dean addressed the graduates, urging them to embark on a new stage defined by responsibility, achievement, and impact, and to remember that what they have gained extends beyond academic knowledge to include lifelong learning, critical thinking, teamwork, and taking responsibility. He affirmed that the Faculty would always remain their home and that their success is an extension of its own.

The ceremony celebrated the graduation of 732 students in Electrical Engineering, 425 in Mechanical Engineering, 302 in Civil Engineering, and 154 in Architectural Engineering.
