Today, Dr. Mostafa Madbouly, Prime Minister, held a meeting to discuss efforts to advance the partnership between Ain Shams University, Ain Shams National University, and the University of Exeter in the United Kingdom to establish the University of Exeter’s first international campus in Egypt. The meeting was attended by Dr. Abdelaziz Konsowa, Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research and Acting Minister of Culture; Prof. Mohamed Diaa Zain El-Abedeen, President of Ain Shams University and Acting President of Ain Shams National University; and Prof. Mohamed Saleheen, Vice President of Ain Shams National University for Academic Affairs.

At the outset of the meeting, the Prime Minister emphasized the importance of expanding international partnerships with leading universities and academic institutions worldwide, as part of the state’s efforts to provide students with outstanding educational opportunities and attract prestigious international academic institutions to offer their educational programs in Egypt, further strengthening Egypt’s position as a regional hub for education, scientific research, and innovation.

The Prime Minister also noted that expanding international partnerships in higher education is aligned with Egypt Vision 2030, which places education, scientific research, and innovation at the heart of sustainable development. The strategy seeks to enhance the competitiveness of Egyptian higher education and align its outcomes with the needs of local, regional, and global labor markets.

Dr. Abdelaziz Konsowa explained that a Heads of Terms document outlining the key principles and terms of the partnership between Ain Shams University, Ain Shams National University, and the University of Exeter was signed in August this year, paving the way for the completion of the final agreements to establish the University of Exeter’s first international campus in Egypt, to be hosted by Ain Shams National University. This would make the University of Exeter the first UK Russell Group university to offer its academic programs and degrees in North Africa through an international campus in Egypt.

For his part, Prof. Mohamed Diaa Zain El-Abedeen noted that the collaboration aims to capitalize on the complementary expertise and capabilities of the three universities. The partnership brings together Ain Shams University’s longstanding academic and research expertise, Ain Shams National University’s modern infrastructure and educational environment, and the University of Exeter’s advanced academic expertise and international standards.

Regarding the academic programs to be offered, Prof. Mohamed Salheen explained that they will span several key fields, including computer and data sciences, engineering, business and management, and health and life sciences. These disciplines are closely linked to the economies of the future, rapid technological transformations, and the evolving needs of labor markets.

At the conclusion of the meeting, the Prime Minister directed that all necessary procedures be completed to ensure the success of this significant partnership. He also called for pursuing similar partnerships with other leading international universities, in line with the state’s efforts to advance higher education, scientific research, and innovation.
