In a new achievement added to the distinguished record of the Faculty of Computer and Information Sciences at Ain Shams University, the Hacktastic team won first place in the AI Hackathon for Developing Smart Solutions in the New and Renewable Energy Sector. The hackathon was held as part of the fourth edition of the University Capacity Building Initiative in Artificial Intelligence, organized by the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology in collaboration with Dell Technologies.

The team was honored during the initiative’s closing ceremony by Eng. Raafat Hindi, Minister of Communications and Information Technology; Prof. Abdelaziz Konsowa, Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research and Acting Minister of Culture; and Eng. Mohamed Amin, Senior Vice President of Dell Technologies for Central & Eastern Europe, the Middle East, Türkiye, and Africa, in recognition of the project’s excellence and its innovative application of artificial intelligence to support the new and renewable energy sector.

This achievement comes under the patronage of Prof. Mohamed Diaa Zain El-Abedeen, President of Ain Shams University; Prof. Rami Maher Ghali, Vice President for Education and Student Affairs; under the supervision of Prof. Rasha Ismail, Dean of the Faculty of Computer and Information Sciences; and Dr. Mona Abdel Azim, Director of the Faculty’s Alumni Unit.

This year’s initiative brought together 1,090 students from 10 Egyptian universities, who submitted 445 AI-based projects across various fields. The hackathon featured 105 students representing 21 teams, with 10 teams advancing to the final round, where Ain Shams University’s Hacktastic team claimed first place.

The award recognized the team’s innovative project, “Gadded” (Renew), an AI-powered platform designed to accelerate the transition to clean energy within the industrial sector.

The platform enables factory owners and industrial facilities to quickly and accurately assess the technical and economic feasibility of installing solar energy systems. By analyzing a limited set of user-provided data, it generates clear insights into project suitability, expected return on investment, and the required regulatory procedures, while also directing users to specialized companies capable of implementing the project.

The Gadded project aims to empower decision-makers with reliable information before investing in solar energy, reducing the time and effort required for preliminary feasibility studies, supporting the transition to clean energy, and demonstrating how artificial intelligence can deliver practical solutions that benefit both industry and society.
