The Launch of an awareness campaign involving university and institute students to promote energy conservation

Under the patronage of Dr. Abdelaziz Konsowa, Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, the “Save It… Light It Up” campaign is set to launch this week across universities and institutes, aiming to rationalize energy consumption and enhance energy efficiency, as part of the state’s efforts to confront the current global energy crisis.

This campaign comes as a continuation of the Minister’s directives to activate the role of universities and institutes in energy conservation to confront the global energy crisis, through several executive measures. These include reducing fuel consumption in university transportation, using energy-saving lighting, expanding the use of solar energy units, and implementing disciplined measures for rationalizing lighting in lecture halls and classrooms.

The Minister emphasized that rationalizing energy consumption is a shared national responsibility, stressing the importance of continuous monitoring of the campaign’s implementation and measuring its impact within universities and institutes to ensure achieving its goals and sustaining its outcomes.

Dr. Adel Abdel Ghaffar, Media Advisor and Official Spokesperson for the Ministry, stated that the awareness campaign aims to activate the role of university youth in rationalizing energy consumption both on campus and at home. He noted that raising students’ awareness contributes to changing energy consumption behaviors within their families through their positive influence in spreading awareness messages among their social circles and various community settings.

The spokesperson added that the campaign relies on university youth as key partners in energy conservation efforts, by promoting responsible consumption practices within campuses and encouraging students to transfer these behaviors to their families, as well as contributing to spreading a culture of energy efficiency across society.

He further explained that the campaign includes a comprehensive set of awareness and interactive activities within universities, such as organizing educational seminars, launching student competitions that encourage innovation in energy efficiency, and applying practical measures to rationalize consumption on campus.

He also noted that the General Administration of the Media Office and the Official Spokesperson has prepared a set of awareness videos and visual materials (infographics) in preparation for launching an extensive digital campaign in the Ministry’s official social media platforms, in coordination with university media departments to ensure the widest possible outreach among students.

It is worth noting that the Leadership Development Institute, headed by Dr. Karim Hammam, Advisor to the Minister for Student Activities, will organize a number of student events and activities in coordination with universities and institutes to support student participation in the campaign, enhance their awareness of the importance of energy conservation, and promote positive behaviors related to the optimal use of resources.
