The Faculty of Computer and Information Sciences Qualifies for the African Collegiate Programming Championship (ACPC) After Winning Gold and Silver Medals at ECPC
In a new achievement added to the record of excellence and leadership of the Faculty of Computers and Information at Ain Shams University, two teams from the faculty qualified to participate in the African Collegiate Programming Contest (ACPC) – Arab Collegiate Programming Contest, after securing third and fourth places at the national level and winning gold and silver medals, respectively. The achievement came during the 25th edition of the Egyptian Collegiate Programming Contest (ECPC), with more than 1,000 teams participating from across Egypt.
The closing ceremony of the 25th edition of the Egyptian Collegiate Programming Contest for university students was held at the Arab Academy for Science, Technology and Maritime Transport in Alexandria. The ceremony was attended by the Minister of Communications and Information Technology and the Governor of Alexandria. The final competitions featured 378 teams representing 113 Egyptian universities, competing to solve a series of complex programming problems using algorithms, logical thinking, and problem-solving skills.

The participation of Ain Shams University students reflects the University’s support for student excellence and its commitment to enhancing students’ capabilities in technology and competitive programming, under the patronage of Prof. Mohamed Diaa Zain El Abdeen, President of Ain Shams University; Prof. Rami Maher Ghali, Vice President of the University for Education and Student Affairs; and Prof. Rasha Ismail, Dean of the Faculty of Computer and Information Sciences, and under the supervision of Dr. Mahmoud Mounir, Faculty Coordinator of the ACM Family.
The Faculty of Computer and Information Sciences participated in the final competitions with 24 teams, maintaining its distinguished presence in one of Egypt’s leading university programming competitions.
The results of the faculty’s two teams were as follows:
Third Place and Gold Medal
• Ahmed Mostafa – Scientific Computing Program
• Ibrahim Yasser – Computer Science Program
• Ahmed Mohsen – Second Year
• Fourth Place and Silver Medal
• Karim Essam – Computer Science Program
• Karim Hatem – Computer Science Program
• Mazen Hassan – Computer Science Program
Abdel Rahman Sayed Abdel Fattah, a 2022 graduate of the faculty, also participated as a coach, contributing his expertise to training the participating teams and supporting the students throughout the competition.
The ECPC is considered one of the key stages in the competitive programming circuit and a gateway to qualify for the ACPC at the regional level, which in turn leads to participation in the World Finals of the International Collegiate Programming Contest (ICPC).
