The second event of the "Women and Green Transformation" initiative of the Faculty of Specific Education

The Women's Support and Anti-Violence Unit at Ain Shams University organized the second event of the "Women and Green Transformation" initiative at the University's Faculty of Specific Education, under the auspices of Prof. Dr. Mahmoud El-Meteini, President of the University, Prof. Dr. Abdel Fattah Saoud, Vice President for Education and Student Affairs, Prof. Dr. Ghada Farouk, Acting Vice President for Community Service and Environmental Development, Prof. Dr. Osama El-Sayed, Dean of the Faculty of Specific Education, Prof. Dr. Mohamed Farag, Vice Dean for Community Service and Environmental Development, and Dr. Hind Al-Hilali, Director of the Women's Support and Anti-Violence Unit.

Prof. Dr. Osama Al-Sayed attended and thanked the Women's Support Unit for its efforts and organization of this symposium inside the faculty.

         
   
         

Dr. Hend Al-Hilali said that the symposium aims to raise the awareness of female students, university workers and faculty members of the negative effects of climate change on urban, Bedouin and rural areas, coinciding with Egypt's hosting of the International Conference on Climate Change in Sharm El-Sheikh Cop27.

In her speech, Dr. Hoda Helal, Director of the Green Transformation Unit at the university, illustrated what are carbon emissions, and how can students calculate the carbon footprint of daily practices such as lighting electricity, using computers and others.

She also addressed the role of micro-enterprises in supporting and empowering rural women, noting that waste recycling is the basis for the projects that students are trained on in the Green Transformation Unit, which aims to reduce carbon emissions and solve the problem of climate change.

Prof. Dr. Hanan Hosni Yasar, a member of the Education Committee in the Egyptian Parliament and former Dean of the Faculty of Specific Education, Menoufia University, presented a working paper on the role of the state and civil society institutions in supporting women breadwinners and developing their ability to run small and micro projects that target economic empowerment in light of the concept of green transformation.

Finally, Prof. Dr. Dalia Hussein Fahmy, Head of the Music Education Department at the Faculty of Specific Education and Coordinator of the Faculty in the Women’s Support and Anti-Violence Unit, presented a working paper on “music and its impact as a soft power that contributes to spreading climate awareness that is sweeping the world.” She pointed out that there are solutions through music and raises the slogan “Save the Earth.”

Dr. Amira Abdel Hakim, a member of the Arab Union for Specialized Women and a member of the Governorates Committee of the National Council for Women, spoke about the role of the National Council for the Welfare of Rural Women and Breadwinners.

After the symposium, Dr. Hind Al-Hilali honored the attendees, then a workshop was held for male and female students to develop capacities in environmentally friendly micro-projects such as waste recycling and rooftop cultivation in cooperation with the Green Transformation Unit at the Faculty of Environmental Studies and Research at the university under the supervision and organization of Dr. Hisham Abdel Latif, Dr. Amal Hassan, as well as an art exhibition on climate change and the transition to green was held, organized by Prof. Dr. Noha Abdel Aziz, head of the art education department at the faculty.
