A New University Achievement: Ain Shams University Wins First Place and Leads Universities in the National Council for Women's Competition

Ain Shams University won first place in the student research competition organized by the National Council for Women, as part of the activities of the 8th Annual Meeting of the Anti-Violence Against Women Units in Egyptian Universities, held in cooperation with the United Nations Population Fund.

This took place in the presence of Prof. Nesreen El-Baghdadi, Vice President of the National Council for Women; Prof. Ghada Farouk, Vice President of Ain Shams University for Community Service and Environmental Development; Dr. Heba Nassar, Head of the Economic and Political Studies Sector at the Supreme Council of Universities; Dr. Shaimaa Naeem, Director of the Strategic Planning Department at the National Council for Women; Dr. Mona Salem, National Coordinator of the Anti-Violence Units Project in Egyptian Universities; Dr. Abeer Abu El-Ela, Director of the Research and Studies Department at the National Council for Women; Ms. Sally Zehni, Women's Program Manager at the United Nations Population Fund; and Prof. Hind El-Hilaly, Executive Director of the Women's Support and Anti-Violence Unit at Ain Shams University.

The event saw the participation of the competition's judging panel, comprised of professors and consultants from the Women's Support and Anti-Violence Unit at Ain Shams University: Prof. Fayrouz Mahmoud, Professor at the Faculty of Girls; Prof. Sohair Safwat, Head of the Department of Sociology and Philosophy at the Faculty of Education, Dr. Yousra Shaaban, Lecturer at the Faculty of Law, Dr. Marwa Mandi, Lecturer of Psychology. In addition to the unit's administrators: Ms. Rania El-Assal, Administrative Officer, and Ms. Souad Ibrahim, Senior Specialist

During the meeting, Dr. Shaimaa Naeem congratulated Prof. Ghada Farouk on Ain Shams University's achievement of institutional accreditation, emphasizing the pivotal role of the Women's Support and Anti-Violence Unit in attaining this distinguished institutional accomplishment.

Prof. Ghada Farouk also expressed her profound happiness and pride in Ain Shams University's outstanding achievement of winning first place in the National Council for Women's student research competition. She affirmed that this recognition reflects the university's commitment to its societal role and national responsibility in supporting women's issues and combating all forms of violence.

She noted that the Women's Support and Anti-Violence Unit at Ain Shams University represents a leading model among Egyptian universities, given its integrated efforts that combine awareness-raising, scientific research, and capacity building, in partnership with the National Council for Women, the United Nations Population Fund, and all relevant national entities.

Prof. Ghada Farouk affirmed that this achievement is the culmination of the university’s strategy to empower male and female students and enhance their effective participation in addressing contemporary societal issues, especially gender-based violence, particularly in light of the challenges posed by modern technology.

She concluded her remarks by expressing her gratitude to the National Council for Women, the United Nations Population Fund, the members of the judging panels, the Women's Support and Anti-Violence Unit, and all those involved in organizing the competition. She commended the outstanding efforts of the winning students and affirmed that Ain Shams University will continue to support every initiative that contributes to building a more aware, just, and safe society.

The results of the student research competition, titled "Combating Technology-Facilitated Violence," were also announced. Ain Shams University topped the overall rankings, achieving first place among 86 student research papers submitted from 10 Egyptian universities.

The results showed that the Faculty of Education at Ain Shams University won all three top prizes, each worth 10,000 Egyptian pounds, awarded to the following students:

1. Ibrahim Mohamed Abdelkader

2. Hadeer Khaled

3. Mary Lisha Azmy and Marina Emad

In her address, Prof. Nasreen Al-Baghdadi thanked all those involved in organizing the competition, emphasizing the importance of preparing a generation aware of women's issues and enhancing students' capabilities in scientific research methodologies to effectively and consciously address issues of violence.

The events concluded with a presentation by Prof. Hind Al-Hilali on the most prominent achievements of the Women's Support and Anti-Violence Unit during the 2024-2025 academic year. She also reviewed the research conducted by the unit over the past five years in the field of combating violence, including a field study on healthcare providers exposed to violence while working in emergency hospitals.
