The Education and Student Affairs Sector at Ain Shams University Launches Awareness Seminar Series on the Dangers of Addiction in Cooperation with the Addiction Treatment and Control Fund

On Thursday, October 23, 2025, the Faculty of Medicine at Ain Shams University hosted the first event in a series of awareness seminars organized by the Education and Student Affairs Sector, represented by the Department of Student Families and Unions at the General Administration of Youth Welfare, in cooperation with the Addiction Treatment and Control Fund. The event was held under the patronage of Prof. Mohamed Diaa Zain ElAbedeen, President of Ain Shams University, and graciously hosted by Prof. Ali El Anwar, Dean of the Faculty of Medicine and Chairman of the Board of Ain Shams University Hospitals, and Prof. Rania Salah, Vice Dean of the Faculty of Medicine for Education and Student Affairs.

The seminar, titled “The Social and Medical Dimensions of Narcotic Substances,” featured presentations by Dr. Rasha Mohamed Rashad, researcher at the Addiction Treatment and Control Fund and coordinator of preventive programs at Ain Shams University, and Dr. Mohamed Mostafa Mohamed, toxicology expert at the Forensic Medicine Authority.

The discussions focused on the risks of addiction for individuals and society, highlighting the role of the Addiction Treatment and Control Fund in combating this phenomenon, including treatment and social rehabilitation services offered through the hotline 16023. The seminar also covered early detection methods and preventive measures.

The event witnessed active student participation, with attendees engaging through questions and discussions. The Addiction Treatment and Control Fund also announced a volunteer program, giving students the opportunity to join intensive training courses and earn certificates that qualify them to participate in ongoing awareness initiatives within the faculty.

Notably, the awareness seminars on “Addiction: Risks and Harms” are scheduled to be held across all faculties of the university during the academic year.

The seminar series is organized by the Education and Student Affairs Sector under the coordination and administrative supervision of Mr. Ibrahim Saeed Hamza, Assistant Secretary of the University for the Education and Student Affairs Sector.
