The Education and Student Affairs Sector at Ain Shams University, in cooperation with the Popular and Military Defense Forces of the Egyptian Armed Forces, organized a grand celebration marking the anniversary of the glorious October victories.

The event was held under the patronage of Prof. Mohamed Diaa Zain El-Abedeen, President of Ain Shams University, and in the honor and presence of Major General Staff Hisham Hosny Hassan, Commander of the Popular and Military Defense Forces. It was also attended by Dr. Ibrahim Saber Khalil, Governor of Cairo; Prof. Ghada Farouk, Vice President for Community Service and Environmental Development; Prof. Walaa Abdel Ghani, Dean of the Faculty of Agriculture; Prof. Farid Moharram El-Garhy, Dean of the Faculty of Commerce; Prof. Yassin El-Shazly, Dean of the Faculty of Law; Dr. Samar Ragab, Lecturer at the Faculty of Education and Advisor of “For Egypt” Central Student Family; along with a distinguished group of faculty members, senior university officials, leaders from the Popular and Military Defense Forces, university staff, and a large number of students, including members of the “For Egypt” student family and military education students.

The celebration began with a recitation from the Holy Qur’an, followed by a documentary film about Ain Shams University and its student activities.

In his opening speech, Prof. Mohamed Diaa Zain El-Abedeen, President of Ain Shams University, welcomed the guests and extended his warmest congratulations to the great Egyptian people and to Egypt’s military and political leadership on the 52nd anniversary of the October 1973 Victory. He emphasized that the Egyptian soldier wrote, with his blood and sacrifices, an eternal epic that will remain a beacon for generations, one that symbolized not just the crossing of a formidable water barrier, but the triumph of national will, restoring dignity and self-confidence to the nation. He highlighted that the October War was a lesson in strength, peace, willpower, precise planning, and faith, and a message to the world that Egypt, the cradle of civilization, is a nation of peace that defends its sovereignty with honor.

He added that celebrating such historic events allows us to draw lessons for the present and future, the foremost being the value of knowledge and learning, as victory was achieved through courage, science, planning, and innovation, values that universities must continue to uphold. He likened the student’s role in lectures to that of a soldier in the field, stressing the importance of unity and teamwork in facing today’s challenges and building Egypt’s future.

In his speech, Dr. Ibrahim Saber, Governor of Cairo, expressed his pride in being at Ain Shams University, one of Egypt’s most prestigious academic institutions. He noted that the October Victory was not only a military triumph but a national one, embodying the will of an entire people determined to regain their land and dignity. He praised the Egyptian army’s heroism, faith, and strategic excellence, making the October victory a symbol of determination and inspiration for generations.

He also underscored the importance of continuing Egypt’s path of development and construction with the same spirit that drove the soldiers of 1973, aligning with Egypt’s Vision 2030 under the leadership of President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi. Dr. Saber further touched on Egypt’s vital humanitarian role in Gaza, emphasizing the importance of universities, particularly Ain Shams, in community service, education, and fostering national values among youth.

The event featured a lecture by Brigadier General Dr. Eng. Samir Ragab, Chairman of the Arab Foundation for Development and Strategic Studies, titled “The Spirit of October: The Weapon of Victory and Response to Challenges.” He thanked the university for its warm hospitality and excellent organization and discussed the strategic deception plan led by President Anwar El-Sadat in 1973, demonstrating how science, determination, and ingenuity enabled Egypt to achieve victory against a technologically superior enemy.

Following that, a documentary film about the October War was screened, after which Major General Staff Hisham Hosny Hassan, Commander of the Popular and Military Defense Forces, delivered a speech conveying the greetings of General Mohamed Zaki, Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces and Minister of Defense and Military Production, and Lieutenant General Ahmed Khalifa, Chief of Staff of the Armed Forces, to Ain Shams University’s leadership and students.

He praised the university’s excellent organization and warm reception, commending its efforts to instill patriotism and belonging among its students. Addressing the students, he urged them to take pride in their university and country, to seek knowledge from diverse sources, and to use the internet positively, noting that today’s youth are Egypt’s future leaders.

He also highlighted the role of young soldiers and scientific innovation in achieving the October victory, particularly the use of water pressure techniques to breach the Bar Lev Line, enabling the crossing into Sinai.

The celebration included musical performances by the Ain Shams University Choir, conducted by Maestro Marwan Qenawy, who performed a selection of patriotic songs that received enthusiastic applause from the audience.

At the conclusion of the event, Major General Hisham Hosny Hassan and Prof. Mohamed Diaa Zain El-Abedeen honored the families of martyrs, outstanding students with disabilities, and distinguished participants. The two leaders exchanged shields of appreciation between Ain Shams University and the Popular and Military Defense Forces as a symbol of mutual respect and cooperation.

The ceremony was hosted by media presenter Shaza Shaaban, in collaboration with a group of Armed Forces officers, and organized by the Education and Student Affairs Sector, under the general coordination and administrative supervision of Mr. Ibrahim Said Hamza, Assistant Secretary-General for Education and Student Affairs.
