Appointment of Prof. Tamer Abdullah Fathy Sharaf as the Dean of the Faculty of Science
Dr. Abdelaziz Konsowa, Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research and Acting Minister of Culture, announced the issuance of a presidential decree appointing Prof. Tamer Abdullah Fathy Sharaf as Dean of the Faculty of Science at Ain Shams University.
Prof. Sharaf is a Professor of Physics at the Faculty of Science, Ain Shams University, specializing in materials science, nanotechnology, and surface science. He has more than 20 years of academic and research experience in teaching and scientific research.
He currently serves as Coordinator of the Materials and Nanoscience Program and is also involved in the activities and management of the Nanotechnology Center at Ain Shams University.
His research interests focus on nanotechnology and nanomaterials, plasmonics, Surface-Enhanced Raman Spectroscopy (SERS), Scanning Tunneling Microscopy (STM), Atomic Force Microscopy (AFM), and Surface Plasmon Resonance (SPR). His areas of expertise also include thin films, functional materials, and applications of optical and photoacoustic spectroscopy in energy, imaging, and biomedical diagnostics.
Prof. Sharaf earned his PhD in Physics from Ain Shams University in 2008 and conducted postdoctoral research at the Fitzpatrick Institute for Photonics, Duke University, in the United States. He has also contributed to several research projects funded by the Science and Technology Development Fund (STDF), focusing on early cancer detection, rapid detection of SARS-CoV-2 using SERS technology, and the development of nanomaterials for medical and energy applications.
Throughout his academic and research career, Prof. Sharaf has contributed to advancing scientific research in materials science and nanotechnology, promoting interdisciplinary education, and bridging research applications with contemporary scientific, medical, and technological needs.
