This came during the activities of the international conference, which witnessed broad participation from various medical specialties involved in the treatment of gastrointestinal, liver, and urological tumors. Interventional radiology occupied a central position within the scientific program, confirming its growing role in the cancer treatment system.
Prof. Osama Hatta also explained that the conference included intensive scientific training over two days in the field of interventional radiology, with the participation of a large number of international experts from America, Europe, and Asia, all of whom are internationally renowned pioneers in this specialized field.
The program included approximately 60 scientific lectures presented across eight sessions, featuring leading international scientists alongside Egyptian experts specializing in interventional radiology.
His Excellency noted that one of the key topics addressed in the conference sessions was the treatment of complex and intractable liver tumors, for which there were previously no effective treatment options. A new technique based on arterial injection of radioactive particles, one of the latest treatment methods in this field, was presented.
In this context, the conference hosted Dr. Riyadh Salem, a world-renowned American expert and pioneer in this field, along with a number of other international experts.
He added that the role of interventional radiology is not limited to treating malignant tumors, but extends to common benign conditions. The conference discussed the latest techniques in treating benign thyroid enlargements and benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH).
At the conclusion of the IGILUC conference, several international and scientific cooperation agreements were signed. A memorandum of understanding was signed between the Egyptian Society of Interventional Radiology, headed by Dr. Osama Hatta, and the Chinese Society of Interventional Radiology, in the presence of the president of the Chinese Society, who participated as a keynote speaker at the conference.
