A historic achievement for the Faculty of Law… the first Arab team to qualify for the finals of a major international moot court competition

In an unprecedented historic achievement, the Faculty of Law at Ain Shams University has succeeded in becoming the first Arab team to qualify for the final round of an international moot court competition, in its first-ever participation in the Moot Court Competition on the jurisdiction of the International Court of Justice in issuing advisory opinions on international issues related to migration and asylum cases. The competition is organized by the Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam, reflecting the strong academic excellence and scientific capabilities of the faculty’s students on the international level.

This achievement comes under the patronage of Prof. Mohamed Diaa Zain El-Abedeen, President of Ain Shams University, and Prof. Rami Maher Sadiq, Vice President for Education and Student Affairs, with full university support and continuous follow-up from Prof. Yassin El-Shazly, Dean of the Faculty of Law, and Prof. Mohamed Ibrahim El-Shafei, Vice Dean for Education and Student Affairs.

The Faculty of Law team achieved a remarkable milestone by qualifying for the final round, where it is scheduled to face the team from the University of Antwerp in Belgium in the final match, set to be held on 17 June 2026, organized by the Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam.

   
   

The preliminary rounds witnessed strong competition among prestigious universities from around the world, as the faculty team advanced after competing with teams from Europe, Asia, and Africa, including the University of Kent, Sciences Po Paris, Ghent University, University of Amsterdam, University of Antwerp, Mohammed I University, and Addis Ababa University.

This accomplishment is especially significant as it marks the team’s first participation in the competition, in addition to achieving the highest score during the semi-final stages. It reflects the faculty’s commitment to developing students’ advocacy and legal drafting skills and encouraging their participation in international academic activities.

The team consists of the following students:

Meret Magdy Ramzy Yacoub (Third Year – English Section)

This success is the result of intensive training over several months, supervised by Neira Abdel Tawab Ibrahim Gadallah, First Deputy Prosecutor at the Administrative Prosecution Authority and an outstanding alumna of the English Section, and Dr. Basma Adel El-Sen, Lecturer of Public International Law and Deputy Director of the International Cooperation Office at the faculty, under the supervision of Dr. Ahmed Fathy Khalifa, Lecturer of Criminal Law and Director of the International Cooperation Office at the Faculty of Law.
