Martyr Ahmed Shawqi Hospital for Geriatrics celebrates World Patient Safety Day

Martyr Ahmed Shawky Hospital for Geriatrics at the Faculty of Medicine at Ain Shams University and university hospitals organized a celebration of World Patient Safety Day in the presence of representatives from the General Authority for Health Accreditation and Regulation GAHAR, under the patronage of Prof. Ghada Farouk, Acting President of Ain Shams University and Prof. Ali Al-Anwar, Dean of the Faculty of Medicine.

         
   
         

The first celebration of World Patient Safety Day was opened today at the Geriatrics Hospital at Ain Shams University, in the presence of Prof. Hala Sweid, Vice Dean of the Faculty of Medicine for Community Service and Environmental Development Affairs, Prof. Tariq Youssef, Executive Director of Hospitals, and Prof. Walaa Wissam, Director of the GeriatricsC Hospital, Dr. Sayed Al Oqda and Dr. Iman Al-Shahat, member of the Board of Directors of the General Authority for Health Accreditation and Regulation (GAHAR), with the participation of Eng. Najwa Al-Feki, Community Service Ambassador and civil Society Representative, Dr. Radwa Magdy, Deputy Director of the Hospital for the Elderly, Dr. Sarah Ibrahim Abdel Razek, Deputy Director of the Central Quality Unit, and Dr. Iman Afifi, Director of the Central Infection Control Unit.

The activities included a tour of the geriatric hospital, in addition to raising awareness of the goals of patient safety, including different types of hand washing, reducing the risks of infections associated with health care, and the steps taken to improve effective communication in emergency situations, reduce the incidence of bed sores, and safely handle high-risk medications.

         
   
         

The tour included a visit to the palliative care unit to ensure the safety of the equipment. The GAHAR Foundation also provided all support to the hospitals, and the activities will continue over three days, starting from Sunday the 17th until Tuesday the 18th of this month.

It is the first and leading hospital in the Middle East in the specialty of Geriatrics, which includes early detection, treatment, and follow-up of all chronic diseases of the elderly. The hospital also contains intensive care, intermediate care, an internal department, a palliative care unit, and a cognitive training center for memory patients.
