Ain Shams University wins the second place in the competition for the best environmentally friendly university

Today, the Supreme Council of Universities announced that Ain Shams University won the second place in the competition for the best environmentally friendly university for the academic year 2022/2023, due to the efforts made under the presidency of Prof. Mahmoud El-Meteini, President of Ain Shams University, and Prof. Ghada Farouk, Vice President for Community Service and Environmental Development, as the university attaches great importance to the environment and sustainability within the framework of its strategy to shift towards fourth-generation universities, and intensifies efforts to preserve the environment and keep abreast of development and progress, including the university’s implementation of smart green projects in its infrastructure and educational and research programs, such as: Expanding green spaces on campus, creating smart green buildings, recycling paper waste, using solar energy, digital transformation, rationalizing water and energy consumption, as well as holding environmentally friendly activities within the framework of sustainability and climate issues.

The competition aims to reach green (environmentally friendly) Egyptian universities, by measuring the universities’ commitment to participating in the development of an environmentally friendly infrastructure and their observance of infrastructure standards, energy and climate change standards, waste management standards, water management standards, transportation standards within the university, and university standards. Environmental quality, crisis management standards, learning and scientific research standards, and the vision and mission of the university to preserve the environment and sustainability.

The Supreme Council of Universities had prepared an electronic platform for submitting files and videos for applying for it for the first time, in line with saving the cost of printing and paper consumption in order to preserve the environment. Coordination was also made with the Ministry of Environment to participate in arbitration of the competition through a committee member from the Ministry of Environment.
