Faculty of Sciences discusses rationalizing energy consumption and using renewable energies

The department of Community Service and Environmental Development at the Faculty of Science organized under the patronage of Prof. Dr. Muhammad Raja Al-Satouhi, Dean of the Faculty and Prof. Dr. Amani Suleiman Khaled, Vice Dean for Community Service and Environmental Development, in cooperation with the Physics Department, a seminar entitled Energy Conservation and the Use of Renewable Energies, with the participation of the Faculty in the annual global event Earth Hour, which falls annually on the last Saturday of March, in order to contribute to rationalizing energy consumption in order to confront the phenomenon of global warming and to draw attention to the importance of benefiting from awareness of the dangers of this phenomenon.

Dr. Tamer Abdullah Fathy, Assistant Professor, Department of Physics, lectured at the symposium. During the symposium, he stressed that energy plays a major role in the social, economic, technological and political development fields of any country. Inadequate energy supply restricts social and economic activity, limits technology, and thus economic growth and negatively affects the quality of life.

Dr. Tamer Abdullah discussed the causes of global warming, such as the emission of greenhouse gases resulting either from industrial activity from oil and coal or from air pollutants such as volcanoes and forest fires.

Dr. Tamer also introduced the definition of renewable energy, which is energy derived from natural materials that are renewable, meaning that is not exhausted, such as energy derived from water, wind or sun.

Dr. Tamer Abdullah added that perhaps solutions are rudimentary and insignificant in front of a big problem such as the problem of global warming, but the search for an optimal solution lies in cooperation and the union of the countries of the world to stand with one hand and one wall in the face of this coming threat that threatens our lives and our survival on Earth.

The lecturer concluded the symposium that the international community is now fully aware of the crisis that has arisen due to the use of ordinary fuels and has begun to focus more on developing technologies that are absent with it.
