The launch of the second edition of the Dental Students Conference under the slogan “Innovation of the Next Generation”

The Grand Conference Hall at Ain Shams University witnessed, on Thursday morning, the launch of the second edition of the ASU Dent Student Conference, held this year under the slogan “The Next Generation Leads Innovation in Dentistry,” under the esteemed patronage of Prof. Mohamed Diaa Zain El Abedeen, President of the University.

This event is also held under the patronage of Prof. Mohamed Diaa Zain El Abedeen, President of the University, and Prof. Rami Maher Ghali, Vice President for Education and Student Affairs, with direct supervision from Prof. Karim El-Batouty, Dean of the Faculty of Dentistry, and Prof. Reham Magdy, Vice Dean for Education and Student Affairs, reaffirming the university’s commitment to supporting academic excellence and student activities.

The conference aims to create an interactive platform that brings together science and innovation, focusing on reshaping traditional concepts in dentistry through a range of qualitative activities. The most important “Innovation Hackathon,” which presents smart solutions to three of the most pressing challenges currently facing the profession. The program also includes a competition for compiling and presenting comprehensive clinical cases, a major inter-university competition in clinical photography documentation, and presentations of integrated cases that highlight students’ practical and research skills, contributing to the preparation of a generation capable of keeping pace with global technological advancements in the field.

A distinguished group of academic professionals contributed to organizing and developing the conference agenda, ensuring high-quality scientific content and fostering an environment conducive to the exchange of expertise among faculty members and students from various Egyptian universities.

Through its sessions and workshops, the conference seeks to enhance the competitiveness of recent graduates and equip them with the tools needed for innovation and excellence in the labor market, in alignment with the university’s vision of leadership in medical education and scientific research.

In his opening remarks, Prof. Karim El-Batouty, Dean of the Faculty, welcomed the distinguished scholars and professors of dentistry participating in the conference, expressing his pride in learning from them both academically and personally. He also extended special thanks to faculty members, organizers, and the judging committees for their dedicated efforts in ensuring the success of this scientific event, which brings together different generations of the faculty under one roof to promote research and practical training.

He further emphasized the importance of student conferences as a cornerstone in the faculty’s journey toward international accreditation, noting that they primarily aim to encourage students to engage in scientific research and discuss complex clinical cases they have implemented. He added that the conference serves as a vital platform for exchanging expertise and familiarizing students with modern market requirements such as marketing, in addition to promoting the concept of “Comprehensive Care,” which requires coordination among various specialties to achieve the highest professional standards for graduates.

Prof. Reham Magdy, Vice Dean for Education and Student Affairs, expressed pleasure in welcoming attendees to the conference, highlighting that it represents a distinguished scientific platform reflecting students’ ambitions and their ability not only to keep pace with developments in dentistry but also to lead them. She added that the sector believes the new generation of dentists must go beyond academic achievement to include innovation, research, and leadership skills development.

She also affirmed Ain Shams University’s commitment to supporting all student and scientific activities that contribute to preparing distinguished graduates capable of competing locally, regionally, and internationally, emphasizing the university’s focus on encouraging creativity, critical thinking, and an excellence-driven learning environment.

The conference also represents a valuable opportunity to strengthen collaboration and exchange experiences among students from different universities, helping build strong academic networks and promote teamwork and openness to diverse experiences. Student conferences, in this context, serve as a cornerstone in refining students’ skills, enabling knowledge exchange, skill acquisition, and scientific networking, ultimately preparing a promising generation capable of meeting labor market demands and keeping pace with rapid developments in the medical field.

The event included honoring a distinguished group of academic figures and dentistry experts in recognition of their valuable scientific contributions and continued support of the conference. The list of honorees included Prof. Ehab El-Sayed Hassanein, Vice President of Galala University for Academic Affairs; Prof. Hossam Tawfik, Dean of the Faculty of Dentistry at Misr International University (MIU); Prof. Ferdous Rizk, Dean of the Faculty of Dentistry at the British University in Egypt (BUE); and Prof. Hesham Alam El-Din, Dean of the Faculty of Dentistry at Future University.

Recognition also extended to a group of distinguished professors and experts who enriched the conference with their expertise, reflecting the conference’s commitment to valuing outstanding academic contributions in developing the next generation of dentists.

The opening ceremony concluded with an invitation for students to seize the opportunity to develop their skills under the slogan “Feel the energy… Embrace the challenge,” amid notable attendance from researchers and professionals in the dentistry sector.

The closing ceremony also featured a wide recognition of outstanding students and participants across various competitions and research activities, including winners of the comprehensive case competition, scientific photography contest, and innovation hackathon. Gifts, certificates of appreciation, discount vouchers, and in-kind prizes provided by sponsoring companies were distributed in recognition of participants’ efforts and to encourage excellence in research and clinical practice.
