A Clarification Statement Regarding Recent Claims About Research on the Tomb of Tutankhamun

The scientific committee of the 13th Conference of the Papyrological and inscription Studies Center at Ain Shams University affirms that the claims recently circulated on certain websites and media platforms regarding a research paper described as “solving the mystery of the tomb of Tutankhamun” do not reflect the scientific position of the conference, nor do they represent the university or the Center for Papyrology and Epigraphy Studies.

The committee clarifies that the referenced paper was presented as part of the conference discussions; however, specialized academic deliberations revealed several methodological and scientific issues, as well as insufficient evidence to substantiate its conclusions—particularly those related to linking the tomb’s astronomical orientation to claims of assassination, usurpation of power, or the deliberate construction of the tomb based on a specific political narrative.

In line with the conference’s commitment to rigorous academic standards, the scientific committee has decided not to approve the paper for publication in the conference proceedings, due to its inclusion of unsubstantiated conclusions and methodological and scientific errors that do not allow it to be treated as a validated research outcome.

The committee further emphasizes that the presentation of any research paper for discussion within a scientific conference does not necessarily imply endorsement or approval of its findings by the organizing body. Likewise, media coverage of certain ideas raised for discussion does not grant them the status of scientific fact or academic validation.

The scientific committee calls on media outlets and news platforms to exercise accuracy when addressing scientific research and to refrain from attributing unpublished or unverified individual conclusions to Ain Shams University or to the conference without referring to the relevant academic authority.

Ain Shams University and the Papyrological and Inscription Studies Center reaffirm their full respect for the freedom of scientific research, while upholding the principles of rigorous methodology, evidentiary accuracy, and responsible academic publishing, in order to preserve the integrity of Egyptian scientific research and the reputation of academic institutions.
