The Vice President for Community Service and the Dean of the Faculty of Medicine inaugurate the 46th Annual Conference of the Faculty

Under the slogan "Eco-Conscious Care," and under the patronage of Prof. Mohamed Diaa Zain El Abedeen, President of Ain Shams University, Prof. Ghada Farouk, Vice President of Ain Shams University for Community Service and Environmental Development, and Prof. Ali El Anwar, Dean of the Faculty of Medicine and Chairman of the Board of Directors of University Hospitals, inaugurated the activities of the 46th Annual Medical Conference of the Faculty of Medicine, Ain Shams, entitled "Eco-Conscious Care: Sustainable Health."

The conference was attended by Prof. Osama Abdel-Hay, Head of the Doctors Syndicate, Prof. Sherif Farouk, Secretary-General of the Conference, professors, faculty staff, and a select group of medical professionals interested in developing the health system and keeping abreast of the latest developments in the field of sustainable medicine, which gave the conference a distinguished scientific and intellectual character.

In her speech during the opening, Prof. Ghada Farouk, Vice President of Ain Shams University for Community Service and Environmental Development, expressed her pride in this great scientific movement, as she stressed that what she witnessed in terms of effort and strong impact made by the Faculty of Medicine and its hospitals in the field of public health goes beyond being a traditional medical work; as the volume of services provided contributes radically to improving public health in Egypt, and the conference is directed towards discussing issues of sustainability and medical waste and how to make treatment methods a tool for protecting the environment, which is a major qualitative leap befitting the status of Ain Shams University.

For his part, Prof. Ali Al-Anwar, Dean of the Faculty of Medicine and Chairman of the Board of Directors of University Hospitals, affirmed that the Faculty is focused on confronting climate challenges as an existential necessity, stating that this year’s edition is distinguished by an exceptional academic momentum with the participation of all 38 departments of the Faculty, and the hosting of 33 international speakers. The Faculty also succeeded in obtaining 64 European accreditation points for continuing medical education, stressing that the goal is to build an integrated doctor who treats the patient and protects the environment at the same time, and to consolidate the position of the Faculty as a driving force towards a more sustainable health system that guarantees the rights of future generations.

Regarding digital transformation, Prof. Hala Al-Suwaidi, Vice Dean of the Faculty for Community Service and Environmental Development, explained that sustainability has become a comprehensive strategic plan for the Faculty, saying that Ain Shams Faculty of Medicine was a pioneer in digitizing exams, which saved about one million pounds annually in the cost of paper and ink, in addition to expanding telemedicine services and artificial intelligence. She also pointed out that Ain Shams Faculty of Medicine covers most of Egypt’s governorates through medical convoys and health awareness, to ensure that the service reaches all those in need as an integral part of the concept of social and economic sustainability.

In his speech, Prof. Sherif Farouk, Secretary-General of the Conference, highlighted the scale of the events, noting that the conference organizes 121 scientific sessions managed by 810 lecturers, stressing that the conference slogan reflects the commitment to building “green hospitals” that rely on waste recycling and energy conservation, praising the spirit of cooperation between the clinical and academic departments to provide world-class scientific content befitting the name of Ain Shams University.

It is worth noting that the conference serves as a leading scientific platform, bringing together a select group of physicians, researchers, and specialists to formulate a new vision for a healthcare system that balances the quality of medical care with environmental considerations. The focus is on technologies to reduce the environmental impact of the healthcare sector and adopt sustainable models that ensure the well-being of both humanity and the planet as intertwined goals, within the framework of the accelerating global trend towards promoting sustainability and environmental protection.
