26th Pediatrics Conference Highlights Scientific Leadership and Strategic Recommendations to Strengthen Child Health and Future Medical Care

Under the patronage of Prof. Mohamed Diaa Zain El-Abedeen, President of Ain Shams University, the 26th Annual Scientific Conference of the Department of Pediatrics and the University Children’s Hospital was launched. Recognized as one of the most prominent pediatric conferences in Egypt and the Middle East, the opening was attended by Prof. Ali El-Anwar, Dean of the Faculty of Medicine and Chairman of University Hospitals; Prof. Tarek Youssef, Executive Director of Demerdash Hospitals; Prof. Howaida El-Gebaly, Dean of the Faculty of Postgraduate Childhood Studies; and Prof. Hala Sweed. The conference was chaired by Prof. Ihab Khairy, Head of the Pediatrics Department, and brought together leading pediatric professors from various Egyptian universities, featuring specialized scientific sessions.

The conference highlighted the latest medical developments and advanced technologies across more than 14 pediatric subspecialties. It also included 16 comprehensive workshops aimed at enhancing the skills of physicians, nurses, and clinical pharmacists. A documentary video on the Children’s Hospital was presented, and former department heads were honored in recognition of their professional contributions.

In support of scientific research and emerging medical professionals, the department organized competitions for the best research projects, with participation from medical interns and resident physicians. The winners were honored during the closing ceremony. Prof. Ali El-Anwar expressed his pride in this distinguished scientific event, reaffirming the University’s commitment to positioning its Pediatrics Department among leading global institutions and providing full support to the hospital.

Prof. Tarek Youssef emphasized the hospital’s strategic importance in serving thousands of patients annually, noting that the development of the old Children’s Hospital and the oncology isolation agreement are among the top priorities within the Ain Shams University Medical City development plan.

Prof. Ihab Khairy concluded the conference by thanking the participants and reaffirming the department’s commitment to advancing healthcare standards and strengthening medical education both locally and internationally.

Participants issued several key recommendations aimed at improving pediatric healthcare, including the importance of early clinical evaluation of common symptoms such as movement disorders and abdominal pain, and promoting structured multidisciplinary collaboration among pediatric neurology, hematology, nephrology, and cardiology specialists to ensure comprehensive treatment plans for complex cases. The recommendations also highlighted the need to increase awareness of genetic and metabolic disorders.

The final recommendations stressed the importance of early diagnosis of infectious diseases and the rational use of antibiotics to combat antimicrobial resistance. They also emphasized improving care for gastrointestinal and liver diseases through therapeutic nutrition and encouraged the integration of artificial intelligence as a supportive tool in medical diagnosis, nursing care, and patient monitoring to enhance safety. Additionally, participants called for expanding interactive, case-based medical education to strengthen young physicians’ clinical skills and emphasized the importance of implementing these recommendations in alignment with available healthcare resources, while continuing to organize scientific conferences to support professional development and improve healthcare services for the community.
