The Confucius Institute at Ain Shams University Celebrates the Chinese Spring Festival and the Chinese New Year with Egyptian–Chinese Participation

The Confucius Institute at Ain Shams University organized a celebration of the Chinese Spring Festival and the Chinese New Year under the patronage of Prof. Mohamed Diaa Zain El-Abedeen, President of the University; Prof. Yomna Safwat, Acting Dean of the Faculty of Al-Alsun; and under the supervision of Prof. Nasser Abdel Aal, Director of the Institute, and Prof. Wang Xiaokai, the Chinese Director of the Institute.

The celebration was held at the Grand Conference Hall Theater at Ain Shams University, with the participation of a distinguished group of professors and students from Chinese language departments at Egyptian universities, in addition to a large number of faculty members and students from the Faculty of Al-Alsun and the Confucius Institute at Ain Shams University.

The event was attended by Prof. Hassanein Fahmy, Head of the Chinese Language Department at the Faculty of Al-Alsun, Ain Shams University, and Prof. Dalia Tantawy, Head of the Chinese Language Department at the Faculty of Al-Alsun, Minya University. From the Chinese side, Minister Counselor Luo Shunsheng, Director of the Educational Office at the Chinese Embassy in Cairo, and Dr. Bai Kezhang, President of the Chinese Students and Scholars Association in Egypt, were also present.

This celebration comes within the framework of Ain Shams University’s support for cultural exchange and the strengthening of academic and cultural cooperation between Egypt and China, as well as providing students with the opportunity to learn about the rich heritage and traditions of Chinese culture.

It is worth noting that the Chinese New Year marks the Year of the Horse, symbolizing strength, perseverance, and determination in achieving goals. The year 2026 also coincides with the 70th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Egypt and China, marking seventy years of friendship, goodwill, and cooperation between the two ancient nations and their friendly peoples.

Minister Counselor Luo Shunsheng expressed his pleasure at being hosted by Ain Shams University and extended his New Year greetings to the attendees, wishing for further progress in scientific and educational cooperation between Egypt and China, especially with Ain Shams University.

The celebration also included honoring pioneering professors in the field of Chinese studies who have undertaken the responsibility of teaching Chinese language, literature, and culture at Egyptian and Arab universities: Prof. Tarek Hussein Farmawy, Prof. Enayat Abdelhamid, Prof. Nahed Abdullah Ibrahim, Prof. Amany Abou El-Enein, and Prof. Dr. Hassanein Fahmy Hussein. Prof. Yomna Safwat and Minister Counselor Luo Shunsheng presented them with the Confucius Institute Shield in recognition of their contributions to strengthening scientific and cultural cooperation between Egypt and China.

The event also featured a grand artistic performance, during which Egyptian and Chinese students presented a variety of artistic shows reflecting an atmosphere of friendship and goodwill among the Egyptian and Chinese audience. At the conclusion of the celebration, awards were distributed to outstanding Ain Shams University students and top achievers in the Confucius Institute’s academic courses.
