In a new sporting achievement added to the record of Ain Shams University, the university teams won two gold medals, two silver medals, and five bronze medals, for a total of nine medals, during the competitions of the 53rd El-Refaai Martyr Tournament of the Egyptian Universities League, in wrestling, table tennis, fins swimming, and fencing.
The tournament events were launched on Sunday, January 25, and will continue until February 1, 2026, hosted by Ain Shams University, Cairo University, the Capital University (formerly Helwan University), and the American University, as part of a simulation of the African Universities Games, scheduled to be hosted by Egypt in August 2026.
As the strategic partner of the Egyptian Universities Sports Federation, Ain Shams University had the honor of organizing the competitions of judo, wrestling, badminton, and football, under the patronage of Prof. Mohamed Diaa Zain El-Abedeen, President of the University, and Prof. Rami Maher Ghali, Vice President for Education and Student Affairs, with administrative coordination and supervision by Mr. Ibrahim Saeed Hamza, Assistant Secretary-General of the University for Education and Student Affairs, and implemented by the Sports Activity Department of the General Administration of Youth Welfare.

The tournament competitions included team sports such as football, volleyball, basketball (5×5), handball, and basketball (3×3), in addition to individual sports including table tennis, tennis, fencing, fins swimming, modern pentathlon, squash, athletics, badminton, padel tennis, and chess, as well as combat sports such as wrestling, judo, and karate.
Ain Shams University students continue to deliver outstanding performances throughout the competitions, reaffirming the university’s strong presence and leading role in sports activities among Egyptian universities.
