In line with the Egyptian state’s commitment to safeguarding children’s rights, particularly those of newborns and premature infants, and to upholding their fundamental right to the highest attainable standard of healthcare, Dr. Maya Morsy, Minister of Social Solidarity; Dr. Manal Awad Mikhail, Minister of Local Development and Acting Minister of Environment; Major General Mohamed Salman El-Zamlot, Governor of the New Valley; and Dr. Ahmed El-Ansary, Governor of Fayoum, witnessed the signing ceremony of a joint cooperation protocol between the Ministry of Social Solidarity, Ain Shams University, and the Egyptian Society for the Care of Newborns and Premature Infants. The protocol aims to advance and enhance the healthcare system provided to newborns.
The signing ceremony was attended by Prof. Mohamed Diaa Zain El-Abedeen, President of Ain Shams University, and Dr. Gamal Samy, Chairman of the Board of the Egyptian Society for the Care of Newborns and Premature Infants, underscoring Ain Shams University’s leading scientific and societal role in supporting health issues of national priority.
The protocol seeks to strengthen cooperation and coordination among the parties to improve the quality and efficiency of healthcare services for newborns by enhancing the standard of care during the critical early postnatal period, supporting the readiness of healthcare facilities, upgrading the skills of medical and nursing staff, and implementing approved standard medical protocols. It also aims to enhance early screening and intervention services and to develop referral and follow-up systems to ensure the sustainability of safe, high-quality healthcare services.
The protocol was signed by Mr. Amr Hassan, Head of the Central Unit for Associations and Civil Work at the Ministry of Social Solidarity; Prof. Ghada Farouk Hassan, Vice President of Ain Shams University for Community Service and Environmental Development; and Dr. Radwa Mohamed Mahmoud Hassan, Executive Director of the Egyptian Society for the Care of Newborns and Premature Infants.
This cooperation reflects Ain Shams University’s firm belief in the importance of its scientific and community role in supporting maternal and child health, recognizing that improving neonatal healthcare services is a core pillar for achieving sustainable development goals and for advancing preventive and curative healthcare standards through strengthening health infrastructure, building the capacities of medical personnel, and applying approved medical standards and protocols.
The signatory parties affirmed that this protocol represents a model of integration between state institutions, national universities, and civil society organizations. It contributes to unifying efforts, maximizing the benefit from Ain Shams University’s scientific and medical expertise, achieving the best possible health outcomes for newborns, and ensuring the sustainable delivery of high-quality, efficient healthcare services.
