Ain Shams University Advances 200 Places in the Times Higher Education (THE) World University Rankings

Under the patronage of Prof. Mohamed Diaa Zain El-Abedeen, President of Ain Shams University, the university has made a significant leap in its global ranking. According to the Times Higher Education (THE) World University Rankings for 2026, Ain Shams University advanced by 200 places, moving up an entire band to be ranked within the 801–1000 category, compared to its previous position in the 1001–1200 category last year.

Prof. Mohamed Diaa Zain El Abedeen affirmed that this advancement is the result of a consistent and ambitious strategy adopted by the university. It reflects the dedicated, ongoing, and well-coordinated efforts of all university departments and units, as well as the commitment of the entire university community. These efforts align with the Ministry of Higher Education’s strategic plan, which has empowered Ain Shams University to surpass many other global institutions.

He also added that Ain Shams University is now ranked among the top 2% of universities worldwide, as it has been included in all major international rankings across different methodologies. This highlights the university’s excellence in teaching and education quality, scientific research, academic reputation, community service, international diversity, graduate employability, infrastructure, research citations, and international research collaboration, the key metrics on which universities are evaluated globally.

Dr. Ahmed El-Banna, Director of the International Rankings Department at Ain Shams University, explained that the THE World University Rankings is a highly accurate and prestigious classification that relies on 17 performance indicators covering various educational, research, and applied aspects. These are distributed across five core areas that encompass all dimensions of academic excellence, making progress in this ranking a major challenge for all universities.
