Ain Shams University delivers funding contracts for applied research projects to eight faculty staff

As part of its commitment to linking scientific research with industry and innovation to achieve economic development, Ain Shams University announced its support for several applied research projects across various fields.

Prof. Mohamed Diaa Zain El-Abedeen, President of Ain Shams University, and Prof. Amany Osama Kamel, Vice President for Postgraduate Studies and Research, handed over funding contracts to eight faculty members who won university-supported applied research projects.

In his remarks, Prof. Mohamed Diaa Zain El-Abedeen welcomed the attendees, noting that the university is built on three main pillars: education, scientific research, and community service, emphasizing that quality education is the foundation for outstanding research.

He added that Ain Shams University provides researchers with an enabling environment that helps them succeed. He explained that while publishing research internationally is an important step that enhances the university’s global standing, it is not the goal, it should be followed by concrete steps to ensure the research has a tangible impact on the surrounding community, particularly in key sectors such as pharmaceuticals, energy, and engineering.

Prof. Diaa further noted that scientific research is a forward-looking vision that bears fruit after years of dedicated effort, requiring a unique approach to achieve its goals. “We have rich ideas that can only flourish through researchers who can transform them into scientific applications,” he said, praising the Nanotechnology Center for its role in supporting applied research, and reaffirming the university’s commitment to providing both direct and indirect support to researchers.

He also pointed out that the university has a strategic vision for financial sustainability through developing the outcomes of scientific research into profitable economic models that ensure continued funding for research and innovation.

In her speech, Prof. Amany Osama Kamel welcomed Prof. Mohamed Diaa Zain El Abedeen, describing him as the main supporter of scientific research, and congratulated the winning faculty members, highlighting their excellence and the high quality of their research work. She also extended her appreciation to the evaluation committee and Prof. Hoda Sosa for their efforts in ensuring the success of the assessment process and in selecting the most promising research projects, wishing all researchers continued success.

Prof. Amany urged researchers to raise awareness about intellectual property protection and to prioritize patent registration before publication, affirming that scientific research is the path toward a more advanced future.

In her remarks, Prof. Hoda Sosa, Director of the Grants and Projects Administration at the Sector of International Relations and Academic Cooperation, stressed the importance of involving specialized experts to help transform technical results and research outputs into industrial and societal applications, as well as experts in intellectual property documentation and patent protection.

Prof. Mohamed Diaa Zain El-Abedeen approved this proposal and directed the Projects Administration to take the necessary steps for its implementation, in support of the university’s efforts to enhance applied research and translate its results into real societal impact.

The meeting was attended by Prof. Hoda Sosa, Dr. Noha El-Rafie, Deputy Director of the Grants and Projects Administration, and a group of the university’s Grants and Projects Office staff members.

This initiative comes as part of Ain Shams University’s continuous efforts to support applied research projects that contribute to developing innovative solutions to societal challenges, and to strengthen the university’s position as a leading institution in applied scientific research and innovation.
