In a significant step reinforcing the Faculty of Medicine at Ain Shams University’s commitment to digital transformation and advancing medical education and training in line with international standards, the faculty witnessed the signing of a cooperation agreement with AMBOSS, the global medical knowledge platform. Under the agreement, the faculty becomes the first medical school in the Middle East to provide its students with a unified digital knowledge ecosystem spanning the various stages of their educational and training journey, from undergraduate study through the completion of residency and specialty training.

The partnership builds on previous efforts by the Faculty of Medicine at Ain Shams University, which resulted in providing AMBOSS accounts to interns and many resident physicians at the University Hospitals. With the expansion of the partnership to include undergraduate students enrolled in both the mainstream program and the Extended Medical Program (EMP), an integrated knowledge ecosystem is now in place to support students and physicians throughout the various stages of their professional development, seamlessly connecting academic study, clinical training, and specialty training.

The agreement was signed on behalf of the Faculty of Medicine at Ain Shams University in the presence of Prof. Ali El-Anwar, Dean of the Faculty and Chairman of the Board of University Hospitals; Prof. Tarek Youssef Ahmed, Executive Director of Ain Shams University Hospitals; Prof. Rania Salah, Vice Dean for Education and Student Affairs; Prof. Tarek M. Youssef, Vice Dean for Postgraduate Studies and Research; Prof. Hala Sweed, Vice Dean for Community Service and Environmental Development; Prof. Ahmed Hamdy, Undergraduate Education Director; Prof. Mostafa El-Hodhod, Advisor to the Dean for Education and Training Affairs; Prof. Marwa El-Deeb, Director of the Medical Internship Program; and Assoc. Prof. Sherine Fawaz, Director of the International Relations Office. Also attending were the directors of the International Students Office, the Extended Medical Program (EMP), the National Ain Shams University (NASU) Program, the E-Learning Office, and Ain Shams Virtual Hospital, as well as the executive team responsible for implementing the platform.

Representing AMBOSS were Dr. Majed Salimi, Co-Founder and CEO; Dr. Anna Schuster, Co-Founder; Dr. Maika Schmidt, Vice President; and members of the company’s Middle East and Africa team.

The agreement reflects the Faculty of Medicine at Ain Shams University’s commitment to keeping pace with rapid advances in medical technology and digital education. One of the key areas of cooperation is access to safe clinical AI tools, enabling students and physicians to train with specialized, scientifically and clinically validated medical tools rather than general-purpose AI applications. This approach strengthens clinical reasoning skills and promotes the responsible use of technology, ultimately contributing to higher-quality healthcare and enhanced patient safety.

The agreement covers both Egyptian and international students enrolled in the mainstream program and the Extended Medical Program (EMP). It gives Egyptian students direct access to the latest medical knowledge and international standards of medical practice, while providing international students with a structured learning and training pathway that supports their preparation for medical licensing examinations and specialty training programs in their home countries and around the world.

The clinical AI tools available through the platform are supported by specialized scientific studies, including research on the safe use of artificial intelligence in medicine involving leading academic institutions, including Harvard and Stanford universities. This further strengthens confidence in integrating these tools into medical education and training.

This collaboration represents a new addition to Ain Shams University’s medical education ecosystem, strengthening its capacity to prepare generations of physicians equipped with up-to-date medical knowledge, digital skills, and the ability to keep pace with global developments in clinical practice. It also reinforces the University’s position as a leading institution in medical education at both the regional and international levels.

On the sidelines of the signing ceremony, the AMBOSS delegation toured a number of educational and medical facilities at the Faculty of Medicine, including the Simulation Center, examination halls, and computer laboratories, which serve as key access points to the platform. The tour also included facilities dedicated to students of the Extended Medical Program and Ain Shams Virtual Hospital, an advanced model for the application of telemedicine technologies and digital healthcare services in the region.

The tour concluded with a visit to El-Demerdash University Surgical Hospital, where the AMBOSS delegation expressed its appreciation for Ain Shams University’s integrated educational and medical ecosystem, the large and diverse numbers of students and trainees it serves, and the specialized medical services provided to large numbers of patients throughout the year.

Dr. Anna Schuster, Co-Founder of AMBOSS, emphasized Ain Shams University’s long-standing history of educating generations of physicians, noting that the clear vision and strong commitment to implementation witnessed by the delegation during its visit reflect the institution’s distinguished standing.

She added that the agreement marks an important milestone in AMBOSS’s mission to empower physicians with access to the knowledge and tools they need to provide the best possible patient care. She also expressed her aspiration to further develop the partnership as part of a broader path toward supporting medical education in Egypt and across the Middle East.

For his part, Prof. Ali El-Anwar, Dean of the Faculty of Medicine and Chairman of the Board of Ain Shams University Hospitals, stressed that the agreement represents an important step toward building a more integrated model of medical education and training, saying: “Bringing together the medical knowledge pathways of undergraduate students and the clinical training of interns and resident physicians under a single global digital system opens the door to a new era of medical leadership and enhances the ability of Ain Shams University graduates to continue learning and developing in line with the latest international standards.”
