Ain Shams University Wins Two Egyptian Mathematical Society Awards for Best Doctoral Dissertations of 2026
In a new scientific achievement reflecting Ain Shams University's excellence in scientific research, the university won two awards from the Egyptian Mathematical Society for 2026 for the best doctoral dissertations in the fields of topology and its applications, and statistics and computer science. This confirms the university's distinguished research staff and its supportive academic environment for excellence and innovation in the basic sciences.
Dr. Howaida Saber Othman Moussa, a lecturer in pure mathematics in the Department of Mathematics at the Faculty of Science, Ain Shams University, won the Professor Dr. Ali Salem Mashhour Award in Topology and its Applications for the best doctoral dissertation, for her dissertation "On Some Types of Topology."
She began her academic career as a teaching assistant in the department in 2016, earned her master's degree in 2019 and her doctorate in 2025. Her dissertation was supervised by Prof. Essam Suleiman Ahmed El-Saidi, Prof. Abdel Aziz El-Azab Ali Radwan, Prof. Sobhi Ahmed Ali El-Sheikh, and the late Prof. Fayza Abdel Halim Ibrahim, reflecting the integrated scientific expertise in pure mathematics and topology at Ain Shams University.
Dr. Salsabeel Mohamed Abdel Salam Mohamed, a lecturer in pure mathematics in the Department of Basic Sciences at the Faculty of Computer and Information Sciences, Ain Shams University, also won the Prof. Bahaa El-Din Helmy Award for Statistics and Computer Science for Best Doctoral Dissertation for her dissertation, "A Study of Behaviors and Competitions Between Strategies in Repetitive Games." She was appointed as a teaching assistant in the Department of Basic Sciences in 2018, and earned her master's degree in 2022 and her doctorate in 2025.
The thesis was completed under the principal supervision of Prof. Essam Ahmed Soliman El-Saidi, Professor Emeritus of Pure Mathematics at the Faculty of Science, Ain Shams University, and with the participation of Prof. Amira Ragab Abdel-Malek Abdel-Rahman, Assistant Professor of Pure Mathematics in the Department of Basic Sciences at the Faculty of Engineering, Egyptian Russian University.
The Egyptian Mathematical Society Award for Best Master's and Doctoral Theses is a prestigious academic award granted annually to honor distinguished researchers in the fields of mathematics and its various branches. It recognizes the quality of their scientific output, the originality of their research, and their contributions to the advancement of mathematical knowledge, while also encouraging research excellence and raising the standard of postgraduate studies in Egypt.
For its part, Ain Shams University expressed its immense pride in this achievement. Prof. Mohamed Diaa Zain El Abedeen, President of the University, Prof. Amany Osama Kamel, Vice President for Graduate Studies and Research, and the University's Awards Office extended their heartfelt congratulations to the two winners and their supervisors. They emphasized that this recognition reflects the excellence of the university's researchers, the quality of its research output in mathematics and basic sciences, and its ongoing commitment to supporting researchers and fostering a culture of excellence and scientific innovation.
This achievement also reflects the crucial role of the supervisors in supporting researchers and promoting research excellence, foremost among them Prof. Essam Ahmed Suleiman El Saidi, a specialist in pure mathematics, author of over 90 scientific papers, supervisor of more than 35 master's and doctoral theses, and former Head of the Mathematics Department at the Faculty of Science, Ain Shams University.
The contributions of Prof. Abdel Aziz El-Azab Ali Radwan in algebraic geometry, algebra, and topology, Prof. Sobhi Ahmed Ali El-Sheikh in topology and its applications, and the late Prof. Fayza Abdel Halim Ibrahim in the field of topology are also highlighted.
This achievement underscores the integration of academic expertise with young researchers and the role of Ain Shams University in supporting scientific research.
This recognition affirms Ain Shams University's excellence in supporting scientific research and nurturing researchers, and its commitment to fostering a culture of excellence and innovation, thus enhancing its academic and research standing and confirming its distinguished presence in local and international scientific forums.
