The President of Ain Shams University attends the activities of the Faculty of Engineering’s scientific conference and emphasizes its pivotal role in leading the transition toward a smart university
Prof. Mohamed Diaa Zain El-Abedeen, President of Ain Shams University, attended the activities of the Faculty of Engineering’s scientific conference, in the presence of Prof. Ghada Farouk, Vice President for Community Service and Environmental Development Affairs; Prof. Amany Osama Kamel, Vice President for Graduate Studies and Research; Prof. Mohamed Saleheen, Vice President of Ain Shams National University for Academic Affairs; and Prof. Amr Shaat, Dean of the Faculty, as well as Prof. Ayman Ashour, former Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research; Prof. Sherif Hammad, former Minister of Scientific Research; Prof. Ahmed Zaki Badr, former Minister of Local Development; along with vice deans, a group of faculty staff, and researchers.
In his speech, the University President affirmed that the Faculty of Engineering is one of the oldest and most prestigious faculties of Ain Shams University and one of its academic and scientific landmarks, noting that it has been and continues to be a leading model of excellence in education, scientific research, and community service.
He explained that the conference is being held amid unprecedented global transformations driven by the Fourth Industrial Revolution and the rapid developments in artificial intelligence, digital transformation, and smart technologies. This place increasing responsibility on universities to develop their educational and research systems in line with future requirements and to contribute to preparing graduates capable of competition, innovation, and leadership.
Prof. Mohamed Diaa Zain El-Abedeen emphasized that Ain Shams University has prioritized, within its strategic plan, building an innovative smart university based on knowledge, technology, and applied scientific research. The university also seeks to employ artificial intelligence applications in education, research, and administration to achieve the highest levels of efficiency, quality, and sustainability.
He pointed out that selecting the Faculty of Engineering to be at the forefront of this transformation reflects its pivotal role in preparing engineering cadres capable of shaping the future and effectively contributing to Egypt’s Vision 2030 and supporting the state’s efforts in comprehensive development and building the New Republic.
The University President praised the great efforts exerted by the Faculty administration under Prof. Amr Shaat, the vice deans, faculty members, and teaching assistants in developing academic programs, strengthening international partnerships, and supporting innovation and entrepreneurship, which enhances the faculty’s position among leading academic institutions locally, regionally, and internationally.
He added that Ain Shams University looks to the future with confidence and ambition, relying on its long-standing history, distinguished human resources, and clear vision. This consolidates its position as a hub of knowledge and innovation, a platform for knowledge production, and a key partner in building a more prosperous future for Egypt and the Arab region.
In conclusion, he congratulated the recipients of university awards and winners of excellence and scientific research awards, praising their academic contributions and distinguished research efforts, and affirming the continued support of Ain Shams University for every creative innovator and researcher contributing to strengthening its scientific standing locally, regionally, and internationally.
For his part, Prof. Amr Shaat, Dean of the Faculty of Engineering, reviewed the faculty’s key achievements during 2025, affirming its continued academic, scientific, and community mission with efficiency and excellence, strengthening its position as one of the leading engineering institutions nationally and regionally.
He noted the continuation of exchange and international study programs with several prestigious universities in the United Kingdom, United States, and Italy, contributing to preparing students for global labor market competition. He also highlighted that around 100 students have benefited from cooperation programs with Italian universities since their launch in 2018.
He also praised the achievements of the faculty’s students in international and local competitions as well as sports, cultural, and artistic activities, emphasizing that these successes reflect the excellence and diversity of students’ talents.
In the field of scientific research, he pointed out that Prof. Hedaya El-Hanawy, former Dean of the Faculty, won the State Award of Excellence in Engineering Sciences, adding to the faculty’s continued presence for the fourth consecutive year among recipients of Egypt’s most prestigious scientific awards.
He added that the Ain Shams Engineering Journal has continued its international progress, becoming among the top 5% of global engineering journals in its field. The conference also witnessed the honoring of 18 postgraduate graduates who received awards for the best master’s and doctoral theses across various engineering disciplines.
He further reviewed institutional achievements, including the faculty’s first place in the administrative excellence award at Ain Shams University and third place at the national level, in addition to developing educational and research infrastructure through the opening of specialized laboratories, including electrical power labs and a 3D printing lab.
He confirmed that the faculty continues its national and societal role by contributing to major national projects, referring to scientific seminars highlighting the contributions of faculty members in engineering consultancy work related to the Grand Egyptian Museum over more than a quarter of a century.
He concluded by affirming that these achievements are the result of collective efforts from faculty members, teaching assistants, staff, students, graduates, and partners, stressing the continuation of excellence, innovation, and leadership in the coming years.
The conference also witnessed the honoring of Prof. Ghada Farouk, Vice President for Community Service and Environmental Development Affairs; Prof. Sameh Ismail Ali, former Deputy Minister of Housing; Prof. Ayman Ashour, former Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research; along with a group of distinguished professors and award-winning scholars, as well as the honoring of the graduating class of 1972 and 1973.
