Invitation to Female Faculty Staff at Ain Shams University to Apply for the 2027 L'Oréal-UNESCO International Awards for Women in Science

Out of Ain Shams University’s commitment to supporting and enhancing the scientific participation of faculty staff, and encouraging distinguished female researchers to apply for prestigious research awards, and under the patronage of Prof. Amany Osama Kamel, Vice President for Postgraduate Studies and Research, the university announces the opening of nominations for the 2027 L'Oréal-UNESCO International Awards for Women in Science. The award is one of the world’s prestigious international prizes that aims to honor outstanding female scientists in recognition of their remarkable scientific contributions to the advancement of knowledge and the achievement of sustainable development goals.

The award is granted to female scientists who have achieved distinguished scientific accomplishments in the fields of physics, mathematics, computer science, and information sciences. Each winner will receive a prize of €100,000, presented by the L'Oréal Foundation in cooperation with UNESCO. The award ceremony will be held in June 2027 during the “Women in Science” Week activities.

Nomination Requirements:

1. The nominee must have an internationally recognized and outstanding scientific contribution in one of the specified scientific fields.

2. The nominee must have been actively engaged in scientific research during recent years.

3. The nominee must have worked in the geographical region for which she is nominated for at least ten years.

4. Self-nominations, nominations submitted by family staff, or research teams, are not accepted. Nominations must be submitted by a scientist holding a PhD degree.

5. Preference is given to female scientists who have contributed to education, scientific mentoring, and supporting sustainable development goals.

6. The same individual may not receive the award more than once.

7. There is no maximum age limit for applying.

Required Documents for the Awarding Organization:

The nomination file must be submitted in English through the official electronic platform of the award and should include:

• A nomination letter from the nominating scientist explaining the reasons for the nomination (200–400 words).

• A brief quotation describing scientific achievement and its societal impact.

• A detailed curriculum vitae.

• A complete list of scientific publications, highlighting the ten most important publications along with their impact and citation count.

• A list of patents, if any.

• From three to five recommendation letters from distinguished scientists outside the nominee’s institution.

• An approved nomination letter from the faculty.

• Candidate information (name – position – email – WhatsApp number).

• A recent employment status statement.

• Justifications for the nomination.
