100 Engineering Graduates Enter the European Job Market Through Dual Degree Program with Mediterranea University of Reggio Calabria, Italy: A Successful Model for Internationalizing Education

In line with the Egyptian state's direction and the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research's strategy towards internationalizing higher education and strengthening international academic partnerships, Ain Shams University continues to offer successful models of international cooperation that contribute to preparing graduates capable of competing globally. This is achieved through the dual degree program between the Faculty of Engineering at Ain Shams University and the Faculty of Architecture at Mediterranea University of Reggio Calabria, Italy.

During his recent academic visit to Mediterranea University, accompanied by Prof. Marwa Khalifa, Vice Dean for Graduate Studies and Research, Prof. Amr Shaat, Dean of the Faculty of Engineering at Ain Shams University, emphasized that the program represents one of the most prominent examples of international academic cooperation that has successfully translated the vision of internationalizing education into tangible results, both in terms of student qualifications and enhancing their international professional and academic opportunities.

He explained that the program, launched in 2018, has successfully graduated approximately 100 students who received a dual degree combining a Bachelor of Architecture from Ain Shams University and a Master of Architecture from the University of Mediterranea in Italy. He noted that many graduates are currently working in leading consulting firms and architectural design companies in Europe, while others are pursuing postgraduate studies and doctoral programs at the Italian university.

He added that the graduates' success in integrating into the European job market reflects the quality of education provided by Ain Shams University and its ability to prepare graduates with the knowledge and skills necessary to compete in international work environments, in line with the state's efforts to build a globally qualified human capital.

The Dean of the Faculty pointed out that the fruits of cooperation between the two universities were not limited to the academic aspect only, but extended to achieving a distinguished international presence for Egyptian students, as a team of professors, students and graduates of the program participated in the Venice International Architecture Biennale 2023 through the NiLab project, which received widespread international praise, stressing that this achievement reflects the capabilities of Egyptian youth and their creativity in global forums.

These successes come within the framework of Ain Shams University's vision, under the patronage of Prof. Mohamed Diaa Zain El Abedeen, the university president, to support academic excellence and openness to prestigious international universities. This contributes to strengthening Egypt's position on the global higher education map and translates the state and Ministry of Higher Education's directives towards building a more competitive and globally integrated educational system.
