Reaffirming the growing international presence of Ain Shams University and its leadership in sustainability and environmental innovation, the university continued its distinguished participation in the activities of IFAT Munich 2026, the world’s largest platform dedicated to environmental technologies and water and waste management. This came through the active involvement of the Egypt Center of Excellence for Solid Waste Management at the Faculty of Engineering, Ain Shams University.
This notable participation coincided with the high-level presence of the university’s Graduate Studies and Research Sector in the water domain, led by Prof. Amani Osama Kamel, Vice President for Graduate Studies and Research, reflecting Ain Shams University’s integrated vision in addressing environmental and climate challenges and linking scientific research with impactful real-world applications.

During the exhibition, the center was represented by environmental specialist Maisara El-Qady and Eng. Ahmed Atef, Head of the Design and Engineering Supervision Department. Maisara El-Qady also spoke on the exhibition’s official Orange Stage in an international panel discussion titled: “Managing Waste to Cool Down a Warming World?”
The session brought together a distinguished group of experts, decision-makers, and strategic partners from Germany and several countries worldwide, highlighting the critical role of advancing waste management systems in tackling climate change and promoting more sustainable and environmentally efficient development models.
This participation falls within the activities of the international project: “Focus and Discourse on Organic Waste in Jordan and Egypt (Biowaste EgJo),” funded by the German Advisory Assistance Programme (AAP) under the supervision of the German Environment Agency (UBA), in cooperation with University of Rostock and Jordan University of Science and Technology. The project aims to support regional collaboration and develop integrated, practical solutions for organic waste management in Egypt and Jordan.
The Egyptian Ministry of Environment, represented by the Waste Management Regulatory Authority, is the primary national beneficiary of the project’s outcomes, contributing to the development of an integrated waste management system and the achievement of sustainable development goals.
For her part, Prof. Sherine El-Aggroudi, Professor of Environmental Engineering and Director of the Egypt Center of Excellence for Solid Waste Management at the Faculty of Engineering, Ain Shams University, emphasized that the center prioritizes capacity building and the qualification of young researchers and graduates, providing them with opportunities to participate in major international events and forums. This contributes to preparing a generation capable of leading the future of sustainability and environmental innovation.
She also expressed pride in the center’s alumni and current members who now hold technical and leadership positions in prestigious international institutions, noting that this reflects the quality of Ain Shams University’s academic and scientific outputs and its global competitiveness.
This participation embodies Ain Shams University’s vision of supporting applied scientific research, empowering youth, and strengthening Egypt’s presence in international climate and sustainability dialogues, in alignment with the Sustainable Development Goals and Egypt Vision 2030.
