Prof. Mohamed Diaa Zain El Abedeen, President of Ain Shams University, attended the seminar organized by the Faculty of Engineering to honor its professors who contributed to the construction of the Grand Egyptian Museum, one of the largest and most significant cultural projects in Egypt and the world.

The seminar was held under the title: “The Grand Egyptian Museum… The Role of Academic Expertise at the Faculty of Engineering, Ain Shams University, in Accomplishing the Project.” The event was attended by Prof. Amr Shaat, Dean of the Faculty of Engineering; Prof. Mohamed Saleheen, Vice President of Ain Shams National University for Academic Affairs; Prof. Mohamed Abdel Aziz, Vice Dean for Education and Student Affairs; and Dr. Roweida Rashad, Chair of the Session, along with a distinguished group of faculty members and students.
The seminar hosted eminent professors who played major roles in the project, including Prof. Yasser Mansour – General Coordinator of the Grand Egyptian Museum Project (2000–2010), Prof. Fathallah El-Nahhas – Professor of Structural Engineering, Prof. Mostafa Rostom – Professor of Design and Production Engineering, Prof. Tamer El-Nady – Professor of Design and Production Engineering, and Dr. Tamer Radwan – Professor of Structural Engineering
The event also honored the late Prof. Ahmed Hussein for his historic contribution to relocating the statue of Ramses II to its new site within the museum, with his family receiving the university’s Shield of Appreciation.

In his speech, Prof. Mohamed Diaa Zain El Abedeen expressed deep pride in the long-standing contributions of the university and its Faculty of Engineering to this national project, affirming that the Grand Egyptian Museum represents “a distinguished chapter in the university’s history before Egypt and the world.”
He noted that the Faculty of Engineering has long been a key partner in national megaprojects, emphasizing the university’s continued commitment to supporting Egypt’s development. He also directed that all engineering reports related to the faculty’s contributions be compiled and documented into a book that preserves this scientific and engineering legacy for future generations.
Prof. Amr Shaat stressed that the seminar reflects appreciation for the professors’ pivotal role in implementing one of the greatest cultural projects of the modern era, highlighting that their contributions embody the faculty’s commitment to national development and to enhancing Egypt’s global cultural standing. He added that the participation of the Faculty of Engineering in the Grand Egyptian Museum project stands as a living example of the ingenuity and capability of Egyptian minds, and a source of pride for the entire university community.
Major Engineering Contributions to a Global Landmark
The five professors presented brief overviews of their contributions to:
Designing and executing the museum’s architectural and structural elements
Geotechnical works and soil investigations
Relocating the statue of Ramses II and heavy archaeological artifacts
Acoustic and vibration design
3D surveying and virtual reality applications
Structural solutions for the museum façades
These contributions highlight Ain Shams University’s ability to support major cultural megaprojects with world-class scientific and engineering expertise.
At the end of the ceremony, participating professors were honored and presented with the university shields in appreciation of their contributions to this landmark global project.
