Ain Shams University announces the launch of the first-of-its-kind undergraduate program in banking sciences at the Faculty of Business, starting from the academic year 2025/2026

Ain Shams University has announced the launch of a new Bachelor’s Degree Program in Banking Sciences, introduced by the Central Bank of Egypt in collaboration with the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research, the Supreme Council of Universities, and the Egyptian Banking Institute (EBI). The program will be offered at the Faculty of Business starting from the academic year 2025/2026. This strategic initiative aims to prepare a new generation of banking professionals capable of driving financial and economic development.

         
   
         

The announcement was made during a dedicated event held yesterday, in the presence of Mr. Hassan Abdalla, Governor of the Central Bank of Egypt; Dr. Ayman Ashour, Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research; Dr. Mostafa Refaat, Secretary-General of the Supreme Council of Universities; Dr. Hussein Eissa, former President of Ain Shams University, Coordinator of the Presidential Specialized Council for Economic Development, Chairman of the Commercial Studies Sector Committee, and Advisor to the Minister of Higher Education for Financial and Economic Policies; Prof. Mohamed Diaa Zain El-Abedeen, President of Ain Shams University; Dr. Abdel Aziz Nossier, Executive Director of the Egyptian Banking Institute; Dr. Adel Abdel Ghaffar, Spokesperson for the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research; Dr. Tamer Rady, Professor of Economics and Vice Dean for Postgraduate Studies and Research at the Faculty of Business, Ain Shams University; as well as a number of chairpersons of Egyptian banks, university presidents, deans of Faculties of Business, and higher education professionals.

The event also witnessed the signing of a partnership agreement between the Egyptian Banking Institute and several participating universities, including Ain Shams University. The agreement aims to coordinate and organize areas of cooperation to ensure the success of the program, which is designed to equip students with specialized knowledge, practical skills, and the ethical foundations required to succeed in a rapidly evolving banking sector — especially in light of accelerating digital transformation and growing economic challenges.

   
   

Mr. Hassan Abdalla, Governor of the Central Bank of Egypt, stated that the new program represents a pioneering step toward training and qualifying young professionals for the banking sector, and preparing future leaders by providing them with globally relevant skills. He emphasized that investing in youth is a long-term strategic investment that strongly supports the banking sector and economic development.

For his part, Dr. Ayman Ashour, Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, affirmed that the launch of the Bachelor’s in Banking Sciences program is the result of a partnership between the Ministry and the Central Bank of Egypt to provide modern academic programs that align with labor market demands. He highlighted that the program is the first of its kind, offering specialized academic curricula, modern teaching methods, and practical training opportunities for students in banks.

He added that the program will launch at several Egyptian universities starting next academic year, with plans for further expansion. The goal is to enhance graduates’ skills to support the national economy. He pointed out that the program is specifically designed to qualify students interested in financial and banking services, granting them a specialized Bachelor’s degree in Banking Sciences after high school, in line with the national strategy for higher education and scientific research.

In the same context, Dr. Mostafa Refaat, Secretary-General of the Supreme Council of Universities, confirmed that the Council places great importance on aligning academic curricula with the labor market’s needs, in accordance with Egypt Vision 2030. He noted that the Council approved the new program’s curriculum during its meeting on May 31, 2025. The program grants a Bachelor’s degree in Commerce with a specialization in Banking Sciences and will be delivered in English under the credit hour system in Faculties of Business.

Dr. Refaat added that the program was designed to prepare qualified banking professionals by combining academic education with practical training and offering accredited professional certifications, thereby enhancing graduates’ competitiveness in the job market.

In his remarks, Prof. Mohamed Diaa Zain El-Abedeen, President of Ain Shams University, expressed his pleasure with the launch of the Bachelor’s in Banking Sciences program in collaboration with the Central Bank of Egypt and the Egyptian Banking Institute. He stated that the program is expected to serve as a foundational pillar for building a promising future for university students. It directly responds to the ever-changing demands of the job market and reflects the university’s ongoing commitment to offering high-level academic and practical education aligned with the latest developments in financial and banking Sciences. He expressed confidence that the program’s advanced curricula and modern teaching methods will empower graduates with the knowledge, skills, and ethical values necessary for excellence and leadership in the dynamic banking sector, enabling them to contribute effectively to economic and social development.
