"Ain Shams University promotes a Safe Work Environment" The University Vice President Chairs the First Meeting of the Central Committee for Occupational Safety and Health

In a move that reflects Ain Shams University's commitment to providing a safe and healthy work environment for all its members, and under the patronage of Prof. Mohamed Diaa Zain El-Abedeen, President of the University, Prof. Ghada Farouk, Vice President for Community Service and Environmental Development, chaired the first meeting of the Central Committee for Occupational Safety, Health, and Workplace Security.

   
   

The meeting was attended by Mr. Mohamed El Gammal, Head of the Central Administration of the University President's Sector, and a number of deans and vice deans of faculties for Community Service and Environmental Development Affairs. Representatives of the Occupational Health and Safety Authority, led by Dr. Dalia Saeed, Director of the Occupational Safety and Health Office in the Waili District, and a number of university administrative, medical, and security leaders, also attended.

   
   

During the meeting, Prof. Ghada Farouk emphasized that the university has taken proactive steps to ensure the highest standards of occupational safety and health, by forming a specialized central committee working to develop and implement an integrated system that ensures the safety of students and staff within the university and promotes a culture of prevention and community awareness.

Her Excellency emphasized the importance of adhering to field and supervisory procedures and intensifying monitoring within the various faculties and units, including:

• Prohibiting the use of any electrical appliances that do not comply with safety specifications.

• Rationalizing electricity consumption.

• Periodic disinfection of green spaces.

• Safe disposal of waste.

• Monitoring the compliance of workers at construction sites and university restaurants with safety standards, while requiring workers to undergo medical examinations before their health certificates expire.

The meeting also discussed the need to equip medical clinics on campus, provide fully equipped ambulances on each campus, appoint a paramedic in each college, and provide first aid supplies. The meeting also discussed the need to organize training courses for students, employees, and faculty staff to spread the culture of first aid throughout the university community.

At the conclusion of the meeting, it was emphasized that occupational health and safety committees should be activated within each faculty, as well as within university dormitories, and that these committees should be reviewed periodically in accordance with the approved formation decisions. This is to ensure regular monitoring and implementation of safety standards, and to ensure the sustainability of a safe and prepared work environment.

It is worth noting that Prof. Mohamed Diaa Zain El Abedeen, President of Ain Shams University, issued a decision to form the Central Committee for Occupational Safety and Health, headed by the Vice President for Community Service and Environmental Development, and including the Director of the Central Administration of the University Presidency, the Vice Deans of Faculties for Community Service Affairs, and the Directors General of University Dormitories, the Medical Administration, and Civil Defense. This decision reaffirms the university's commitment to providing an integrated institutional model for a safe work environment.
