The President of Ain Shams University receives the Ambassador of Higher Education Award in North Africa at the Conference of the Association of African Universities

Prof. Dr. Mahmoud El-Meteini, President of Ain Shams University, received the Ambassador of Higher Education Award in North Africa at the Conference of the Association of African Universities, which is currently being held in Namibia, in appreciation of his efforts in advancing higher education in Africa and his support for African universities, and for his achievements in the medical field.

Prof. Dr. Mahmoud El-Meteini, who is considered one of the pioneers of Hepatology in Egypt and a pioneer in liver transplantation, managed the first live liver transplantation program for adults and children since 2001 and established the Ain Shams Center for Organ Transplantation in 2008 at Ain Shams University in Egypt, which is the first dual center for adult liver and kidney transplantation, His Excellency also performed the first operation to remove the liver in the left lobe through laparoscopy from a living donor, in addition to chairing many national, regional and international conferences.

He also had a major role in regulating organ transplants in Egypt, which led to the government enacting the “Organ Transplant Law” in 2010.

It is worth noting that the Association of African Universities is concerned with higher education and scientific research and aims to encourage cooperation between them and the international academic community.
