The President of Ain Shams University meets the Vice President of Oxford University to discuss aspects of scientific and academic cooperation

Prof. Dr. Mahmoud El-Metini, President of Ain Shams University, met with several British university presidents to discuss aspects of joint academic cooperation during his visit to the United Kingdom.

On February 21, 2022, His Excellency met the first day of his visit with Prof. Dr. Louise Richardson, Vice President of the University of Oxford, in the presence of the Egyptian Cultural Attaché in the United Kingdom, Dr. Rasha Kamal, where the talk touched on various ways of research and academic cooperation in the scientific and research fields and the transfer of expertise, in addition to encouraging outstanding Egyptian researchers to join Oxford University within the framework of the Egyptian missions plan.

As part of the visit, His Excellency signed a memorandum of understanding with Dr. Kate Oregon, Director of the Bonavero Institute, Faculty of Law, University of Oxford, in the presence of Dr. Rasha Kamal, the Egyptian Cultural Attaché in London, and Dr. Ahmed Khalifa, Director of the Office of International Relations and Academic Cooperation at the Faculty of Law, Ain Shams University, and under the memorandum of understanding, the Faculty of Law at Ain Shams University became the regional partner in the Middle East region for organizing the international competition for photo pleading in the field of media law.

The competition requires that student participants prepare written submissions and oral arguments on a hypothetical case that raises potential violations of the media law, with students pleading once as representatives of the prosecution and again as representatives of the defence. This type of competition is one of the important means of training students in the balanced analysis of various issues, as well as developing their ability to think critically, as the basis of modern legal education.

This step comes in light of the College of Law's plan, headed by Prof. Muhammad Safi, Dean of the College, aims to develop legal education and link it to the skills necessary for the labor market, as well as within the framework of Ain Shams University’s plan to build partnerships with prestigious international universities, in order to increase the university’s competitiveness and raise its international classification.

This agreement between the Faculty of Law at Ain Shams University and the Bonavero Institute at the Faculty of Law at the University of Oxford is the first of its kind in the field of law in the Middle East region. The agreement provided for joint cooperation in organizing workshops, seminars and exchanging teaching curricula in everything related to the field of media law.

Prof. Dr. Mahmoud El-Metini during his visit met Sir Adrian Hill, Director of the Edward Jennifer Institute for Research in Vaccine Development at Oxford University, in the presence of Dr. Ahmed Salman, a researcher at the Institute and a member of the research team to develop the Oxford / AstraZeneca vaccine, and a visiting professor at Ain Shams University, and Dr. Rasha Kamal, Egyptian Cultural Attaché.
