A Successful Emergency Evacuation Drill at the Faculty of Al-Alsun Completed in Seven Minutes as Part of the Crisis Preparedness Enhancement Plan

Ain Shams University’s Faculty of Al-Alsun conducted an extensive emergency evacuation drill as part of the University’s strategic plan to enhance the readiness of its facilities and their capacity to effectively respond to crises and emergencies.

The drill was held under the patronage of Prof. Mohamed Diaa Zain Al-Abedeen, President of the University, and Prof. Ghada Farouk, Vice President for Community Service and Environmental Development, under the supervision of Prof. Youmna Safwat, Acting Dean and Vice Dean for Community Service and Environmental Development, with the presence of Prof. Hala Sayed Metwally, Vice Dean for Education and Student Affairs, Mr. Mohamed Gamal Atwah, Faculty Director, alongside the University Civil Defense Director and his accompanying technical team, and the Faculty Civil Defense Director.

The alarm sirens sounded at 11:00 a.m., signaling the start of the emergency evacuation plan, with prior coordination activated between the Civil Defense and the Faculty’s Administrative Security.

Security and Civil Defense personnel were deployed throughout the faculty buildings to guide individuals to designated emergency exits, ensure smooth movement along corridors and staircases, and prevent any congestion that could hinder the execution of the plan. An ambulance was stationed in its designated location to handle any potential emergencies, with the medical team ready for immediate intervention if needed.

Prof. Yomna Safwat actively participated in the evacuation, closely monitoring the process from the moment the alarm sounded, reflecting the faculty leadership’s commitment to applying safety standards in practice.

The drill resulted in the full evacuation of the faculty’s facilities within just seven minutes, following a carefully planned procedure that ensured the safe evacuation of all categories, including faculty members, teaching assistants, students, administrative staff, and workers, to pre-designated external assembly points via emergency exits designed according to modern safety standards. Civil Defense and administrative security personnel were positioned on all floors to ensure precise execution, organized movement, and removal of any obstacles.

The drill scenario also included evaluating the operational readiness of alarm systems, fire-fighting equipment, and backup lighting, as well as testing the practical response capability of security and Civil Defense teams and the coordination among different units within the faculty.

This exercise is part of a proactive plan aimed at enhancing the efficiency of occupational health and safety systems within the faculty, training personnel to adhere to evacuation procedures, and instilling a culture of responsible and informed response to emergencies. The drill also contributes to strengthening the faculty’s ability to minimize the impact of potential disasters and ensure the highest level of safety for all its members.
