Prof. Hanan Kamel, Dean of the Faculty of Arts at Ain Shams University, received Dr. Konstantinos Kalliris, Director of Partnerships at the Faculty of Arts and Humanities, University of Essex, during an introductory visit aimed at building bridges of academic and cultural cooperation between the two faculties. The visit took place under the patronage of Prof. Mohamed Diaa Zain El-Abedeen, President of Ain Shams University, and Prof. Hanan Kamel, Dean of the Faculty of Arts, and in the presence of Prof. Yassin El-Shazly, Dean of the Faculty of Law; Prof. Hatem Rabie, Vice Dean for Postgraduate Studies and Research; and Prof. Nadia Hasheesh from the Department of English Language and Literature, who will be responsible for coordination and communication between the two universities via email to ensure continuous academic dialogue and the exchange of expertise.
During the meeting, Prof. Hanan Kamel affirmed the faculty’s continuous efforts to strengthen academic and cultural cooperation with international universities, enabling students and faculty members to exchange expertise and learn about global best practices, an effort that contributes to preparing a generation capable of competing across various fields.
During the visit, both parties reviewed the historical background of each university: the University of Essex in the United Kingdom was established in 1963, while Ain Shams University was founded in 1950. They also explored the faculties’ departments, scientific activities, and teaching methodologies in an atmosphere reflecting mutual understanding and a shared desire to exchange expertise.
The meeting included discussions on ways to enhance academic cooperation through faculty exchange, either in person or via online learning platforms, expansion of joint scientific research frameworks, and the provision of distinguished educational opportunities for students. These efforts aim to develop students’ skills, enable them to compete regionally and internationally, and strengthen cultural and academic ties between the two countries.
At the end of the visit, the Dean presented the guest with a commemorative shield, and commemorative photos were taken to document this significant step toward strengthening international cultural and academic partnerships.
