Ain Shams University organized a comprehensive development convoy to serve the residents of the Red Sea Governorate, specifically the cities of Shalateen, Abu Ramad, and Halayeb, under the patronage of Major General Amr Hanafy, Governor of the Red Sea, Prof. Mohamed Diaa Zain El Abedin, President of Ain Shams University, and Prof. Ghada Farouk, Vice President for Community Service and Environmental Development.
The convoy was organized by the Community Service and Environmental Development Sector at Ain Shams University, in cooperation with the Red Sea Governorate, the Southern Military Region, the Egyptian Red Crescent Society, and the Ministry of Social Solidarity, with the participation of several university faculties, including the Faculty of Medicine, Pharmacy, Dentistry, Agriculture, Mass Communication, Commerce, and Education. The convoy took place from October 12 to 16, 2025.
Prof. Ghada Farouk stated that the number of beneficiaries from the convoy exceeded 8,000 across various medical, awareness, and social services. She praised the diversity of activities included in the initiative, particularly the awareness sessions that targeted different segments of the local population.
The medical services included clinics in 13 specialties: Internal medicine, orthopedics, dermatology, pediatrics, ENT, obstetrics and gynecology, neurology, ophthalmology, cardiology, general surgery, dentistry, lab tests, and radiology, along with the free distribution of medication.
A variety of awareness and educational seminars were conducted to meet the needs of the local community. These included Veterinary awareness sessions to support livestock development, Media and Community Awareness Initiative, targeting women aged 20 to 50 from various educational backgrounds. Topics included strengthening national identity and social responsibility, safe and positive use of social media, Awareness of chronic illnesses (e.g. hypertension, diabetes, anemia), Nutrition, daily physical activity, and mental health, The mother’s role in building self-confidence in girls, Positive parenting techniques, Understanding marriage as a shared responsibility, and Risks of early marriage and the importance of education and preparation before marriage.
Sessions were also held for school students and nursing institute trainees, covering Healthy habits for disease prevention, The role of moral values in building society, Negative behaviors in school environments, and Drug abuse awareness and prevention
In addition to the services provided, 4,000 food boxes and 2 tons of red meat were distributed to families in need across the targeted areas.
The convoy was held under the supervision of Prof. Hala Samir Suweed, Vice Dean of the Faculty of Medicine for Community and Environmental Affairs, Prof. Tarek Youssef, Executive Director of University Hospitals, in coordination with Major General Hossam El-Sherbiny, Assistant Secretary-General of the University for Community Service and Environmental Development
