Dr. Ayman Ashour, Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, Eng. Mohamed Shemi, Minister of Public Enterprise Sector, and Prof. Mohamed Diaa Zain El Abedeen, President of Ain Shams University, attended the graduation ceremony of the 71st class of students from the Faculty of Engineering, Ain Shams University.
The ceremony was held in the presence of Prof. Mostafa Refaat, Secretary-General of the Supreme Council of Universities; Prof. Ghada Farouk, Vice President for Community Service and Environmental Development; Prof. Amr Shaat, Dean of the Faculty; Eng. Tarek El-Nabarawy, President of the Egyptian Engineers Syndicate; Prof. Mohamed Saleheen, Acting Vice President for Academic Affairs at Ain Shams National University; as well as faculty vice deans, department heads, academic staff, and the families of the graduates.
In his speech, Dr. Ayman Ashour expressed his delight at attending this special celebration, extending his heartfelt congratulations to the graduates and their families, whom he praised for their support in helping their children reach this important milestone. He also expressed his pride in being an alumnus of the Faculty of Engineering at Ain Shams University, highlighting its prestigious legacy in producing generations of distinguished leaders and professionals.
Dr. Ashour noted that the Faculty has graduated 22 engineers who have served as ministers and two former prime ministers, in addition to internationally recognized figures such as Eng. Hani Azer. He recalled his own tenure as Dean of the Faculty, during which the draft of the National Strategy for Higher Education and Scientific Research was prepared and later launched in 2023.
He emphasized that the national strategy is built upon seven core pillars: integration, interdisciplinary education, connectivity, active participation, sustainability, international alignment, and entrepreneurship & innovation. He commended the Faculty of Engineering for successfully applying these principles through international partnerships with universities in Germany, Italy, and the UK, and through its involvement in major national projects.
Dr. Ashour also encouraged graduates to continue developing their skills and to stay abreast of emerging trends and technologies, stressing that the job market today values continuous learning and adaptability as much as academic qualifications.
For his part, Eng. Mohamed Shemi, Minister of Public Enterprise Sector, expressed his pride in participating in this significant event, describing it as a milestone in the lives of graduates and the beginning of their professional journey. He reflected on his own experience as an alumnus of the faculty, which he credited with instilling in him the principles of engineering, commitment, and hard work.
Shemi emphasized the Egyptian state’s commitment, under the leadership of President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi, to advancing science, education, and industry as cornerstones for building a modern nation. He noted the close collaboration between the Ministries of Public Enterprise and Higher Education in aligning educational outcomes with labor market needs and in nurturing future skills.
Addressing the graduates, Shimi remarked that they are joining the ranks of Egyptian engineers at a transformative time for the nation, as Egypt moves forward with ambitious industrial development, digital transformation, and expanded investment. He underscored the vital role of Egyptian engineers in driving these efforts with their skill, innovation, and integrity. He concluded by urging graduates to serve as exemplary ambassadors of Egyptian engineering and extended his sincere thanks to faculty members and parents for their unwavering support.
Prof. Mohamed Diaa Zain El Abedeen, President of Ain Shams University, highlighted the symbolic significance of the occasion, noting that graduation marks both the culmination of years of effort and the beginning of a new chapter in service to the nation. He emphasized the knowledge and values gained at the university as a guiding compass for the graduates' future contributions to society and called on them to uphold professional and ethical standards while proudly representing their alma mater.
Prof. Amr Shaat, Dean of the Faculty of Engineering, described the event as a culmination of dedicated effort and the start of a new journey. He praised the graduates as a beacon of hope for Egypt’s future and emphasized their readiness to contribute across diverse sectors. He also stressed the importance of applying their knowledge ethically and responsibly and noted the faculty’s commitment to cultural and extracurricular activities as key to shaping well-rounded, innovative individuals capable of facing future challenges.
Eng. Tarek El-Nabarawy, President of the Engineers Syndicate, praised the Faculty of Engineering at Ain Shams University as one of the top engineering institutions in Egypt and the Arab region. He commended the scientific and research capabilities of the Faculty and expressed pride in its graduates, many of whom have gone on to lead major national and international projects.
