A symposium was held within the framework of the memorandum of understanding signed between the Faculty of Al-Alsun, at Ain Shams University, and the United Nations. The symposium was held as part of a series of dialogue sessions with faculty staff from various departments at the Faculty of Al-Alsun. The symposium was held under the auspices of Prof. Mohamed Diaa Zain El-Abedeen, President of the University; Prof. Amani Osama Kamel, Vice President for Postgraduate Studies and Research; Prof. Salwa Rashad, Dean of the Faculty; and under the supervision of Prof. Ashraf Attia, Vice Dean for Postgraduate Studies and Research.

The symposium revolved around the importance of the Arabic language for interpreters from the perspectives of instructors, trainers, and coaches. A lively and enriching dialogue took place between a team of UN interpreters from various locations and a group of faculty staff from the Faculty of Al-Alsun ​​and Literature about the various means of mastering Modern Standard Arabic for trainees and students, as well as the various methods employed by trainers, instructors, and coaches to address the various dilemmas they encounter when interacting with students and trainees.

The symposium also devoted time to discussing field translation and the special skills field translators should possess, in addition to providing practical examples from the experience of colleagues at the United Nations.

The symposium was presented by Dr. Sherine Haidar from the Arab Pavilion team at the United Nations Headquarters in Geneva. A number of fellow translators from the Arab Pavilion from various headquarters attended, including Mr. Mohammed Al-Assi, Head of the Arab Pavilion at the United Nations Headquarters in Nairobi, Mr. Ashraf El-Bahi and Mr. Khaled Samra from Geneva, and Ms. Rama Darwish from New York. The seminar was moderated by Ms. Hiam El-Essawy, Memorandum of Understanding Coordinator and member of the Arab Pavilion at the United Nations Headquarters in Vienna.
