Ain Shams University participates in "Road to Access to Higher Education" conference

Ain Shams University, headed by Prof. Dr. Mahmoud El-Metini through "video conference" in the sessions of the conference "The Road to Access to Higher Education in Egypt", which is organized by Helm Foundation and AMIDEAST in cooperation with USAID and the Ministry of Higher Education.

The conference included a number of interactive seminars and discussion sessions between many experts in the field of access and a number of representatives of Egyptian universities to review the opportunities and obstacles to access to higher education in Egypt.

Where the conference included a group of Egyptian universities in which centers to serve students with disabilities were established (Ain Shams, Cairo, Mansoura, Alexandria and Assiut) with the participation of: Prof. Dr. Ayman Ashour, Deputy Minister of Higher Education, Professor Quincy Dermody, Director of the Scholarships Project at universities at AMIDEAST, and Professor Amna Al-Saai. Professor Ramez Maher, founders of Helm Company, Prof. Dr. Abdel Fattah Saud, Vice President of Ain Shams University, Prof. Dr. Mohamed Sami, Vice President of Cairo University, Prof. Dr. Hisham Gaber, Vice President of Alexandria University, Prof. Dr. Mohamed Attia, Vice President of Mansoura University, Prof. Dr. Shehata Gharib, Vice President President of Assiut University.

In his speech, Prof. Dr. Abdel Fattah Saoud to the effort made by Ain Shams University to support students with disabilities through a plan that includes the university as a whole in order to provide higher education to all students without discrimination.

He emphasized the university’s interest in educating people with disabilities and preparing them well in a way that suits the needs of the labor market, in a way that qualifies them to be a strong and true addition to the places in which they work, which enhances their self-confidence, level of education and functional competence.

He explained that within the framework of the current campus renewal plan, it was taken into account that all campuses be accessible to students with disabilities, including buildings and internal roads at the university.

He also indicated that the university is working on offering an e-learning platform that serves students with disabilities in light of the country's digital transformation plan and Ain Shams University’s endeavor to be a fourth generation university.

This is in addition to supporting students with disabilities from all directions, especially student activity, and making it available to all students, including arts, theater and sporting activities.

His Excellency also commented that providing higher education to students with disabilities is an approach that Ain Shams University pursues, whether in its current or future facilities, as he indicated that plans are currently underway to build two new campuses for the university, crossing and gathering, as it has been agreed with one of the largest engineering consultancy offices for the design of the campus. In all ways to make it available to people with disabilities.

In her speech, Prof. Rana Al-Hilali, Director of the Center for Service for Students with Disabilities at Ain Shams University, said that the university is making every effort to serve students with disabilities, pointing to the center's role in spreading awareness among students, faculty members and university workers to define the needs and rights of persons with disabilities and provides them with many services Availability.
