The Faculty of Arts Launches Arabic Language Program for Ghanaian Students Through December 2026

As part of Ain Shams University's commitment to strengthening academic and cultural cooperation with African educational institutions, the Faculty of Arts has announced the launch of an academic Arabic language program for non-native Arabic-speaking students from the Republic of Ghana. The program will run from July 14, 2026, through December 2026, under the patronage of Prof. Ghada Farouk, Vice President for Community Service and Environmental Development; Prof. Hanan Kamel Metwally, Dean of the Faculty of Arts; under the supervision of Prof. Hanan Salem, Vice Dean for Community Service and Environmental Development; and coordinated by Ms. Eman Zaki, Director of the Consultation Center.

Prof. Hanan Kamel Metwally, Dean of the Faculty of Arts, emphasized that the faculty places great importance on Arabic language programs for non-native speakers, considering them one of Egypt's most significant instruments of soft power. She noted that hosting students from the Republic of Ghana reflects the growing confidence in the faculty's academic expertise and reinforces its role in fostering cultural dialogue and strengthening ties with fellow African nations.

For her part, Prof. Hanan Salem, Vice Dean for Community Service and Environmental Development, explained that the program has been designed according to a comprehensive academic framework that addresses learners' needs by combining language skills development with an introduction to Arab culture. This integrated approach enables students to acquire Arabic within its academic and cultural context while promoting intercultural exchange.

The program features a range of courses covering the core language skills. On Mondays, students study Listening with Dr. Amira Marwan and Reading and Texts with Dr. Islam El-Sharkawy. Tuesdays include Conversation with Dr. Ahmed Abdel Qawy and Arabic Grammar (Syntax and Morphology) with Dr. Ibrahim Naguib. On Thursdays, students attend Arab Culture with Dr. Ibrahim El-Shafei and Writing Skills with Dr. Mohamed Tarek, ensuring the development of the four essential language skills alongside a comprehensive understanding of the cultural and civilizational dimensions of the Arabic language.

This program reflects the Faculty of Arts' vision of expanding the international presence of the Arabic language while reinforcing Ain Shams University's role in community service and in building sustainable academic partnerships with African countries. It also contributes to preparing learners with strong linguistic competence and cultural awareness, further enhancing the distinguished reputation of Ain Shams University as one of the oldest and most prestigious academic institutions in Egypt and the region.
